Jet Pumps / Re: Fuel usage
« on: April 16, 2014, 03:45:53 PM »
Well that should tell you about how much fuel you're flowing w/nos. Does it like that 116?

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
yeah i know. it took 8 seconds of nitrous for firebird, so we used a bunch.
We did a few things between the races, but adding the new crank trigger going from 36 to 40 on the motor woke her up! that Q116 really is some good stuff!

I have cut out the old pump intake .now I need to glass up the hole so I can set the Berkley intake . What type of glass will I need and resin .and any pointers .I ground down the surrounding area so I can build it back up.
What you want is a good Polly laminating resin.
I would use some 22 oz bi-axle and alternating with some 2 or 3 oz cloth.

The No Wake Zone / Re: bilge coat vs gel coat
« on: April 09, 2014, 10:29:17 AM »

The wax is the most important additive. It settles at the top of the gel preventing oxygen causing complete hardness to top. Make sure not to go over any epoxy...will not dry. I rolled my entire inside of hull will 1/2 nap mini rollers. Gave it a nice light textured finish. I did two coats.

If you use a half clear Prestec gel half gelcoat it will air cure and will lay down super nice and smooth. Just sayin..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: help with 496 cam selection
« on: April 08, 2014, 05:35:46 PM »
Opinions on 496 Chevy build.  Mark IV 2 bolt converted into 4 bolt, 10;1 bottom end complete forged crank and pistons.

Question is opinion on head selection and cam selection.  Thinking AFR Heads around 305cc Roller cam off shelf non custom grind but dont want wrong power curve dont want too big and have no bottom end power.  So question is cam selection choice hopefully from experience.

Berk 12jg will be rebuilt and matched.

I know alot of veriables but wheres a good place to start. Mid 80's Bahner open bow full stringer

I would talk with chris straub, he really knows his stuff.

Gel coat you would also want to use half clear and gel coat = flow coat. It takes no skill to do it that way. it lays down super flat and easy to spray.

« on: April 07, 2014, 04:57:05 PM »
Hey guys Im in need of a front engine plate with the attaching 90* brackets for my BBC. I currently have 4 point Harman Marine plates but the front plate has been welded to the port side bracket and the other side is cracked.

I just need the front, but would be interested in a set as well.

Thanks, Jake
I would hit up tom at jet boat performance. he will set you up

The No Wake Zone / Re: Type of boats
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:35:46 PM »
I look at the pictures and videos of the boats you guys all have, and they all appear to made of fiberglass.  Here, in Alberta where I go boating, most of the boats used in the rivers are constructed of aluminum.  I used to run a fiberglass boat a long time ago, and it was okay, but for many years now I have been running an aluminum hull.  I didn't ever weigh the fiberglass boat to know what it weighed, but I know the aluminum one I have that the bare hull weighs 600 lbs.  Even with a big block engine, pump, and fuel in the tanks, it still weighs around 2000 lbs, or a little less.  I may be wrong, but I think the aluminum hulls are lighter than the fiberglass.  What kind of speeds can you guys get out of these boats?  What cut of impellors do you use.  I use an A or even an A2 with a Dominator pump. When I go boating, I like to cruise around 4000 or so, and I do this for hours sometimes. The engine seems to be really happy at that speed, and the relatively light weight gives me a cruising speed of 60- 65 MPH. Just a few questions to satisfy my curiosity.  I don't normally take this boat to any lake, because the lakes around here are small, and just buzzing from one end to the other isn't very much fun.

i can say that a lot of the new boats that are coming out of the molds are south of 400 lbs. Some of the new 19 TPR's and 19 daytons that Gs are putting out are much stronger and getting much lighter . south 350lb  :screwy: :screwy: :screwy: to todays standards, 600lbs is a standard layup

My old ass southwind tunnel dragster weighed in at 545 lbs with the intake and wiring in it. runs in the 90's with 600hp.
i cruze about 3500 i think am at about 50 or 60 with a B-

How does that go for mounting things like seats, pedals, controls? Everything i have looks to be some sort of floor mount do they make an adapter? Or just glass something in to mount it to?
You'll have to make brackets for some stuff. check out hals build. it has all kinds of info on it. I can't find it on socal.

thought about that, but my boat doesn't have the nice floors like yours just the glass...
You can just lay down color. just sand everything till its smooth. i know Hal did the stringers and the rest carpet in his advantage and it looks killer.

Well.... got her flipped, i hope to make some progress this weekend.

I have a question for you all.... Im wondering if you think i should do a floor or not? My original plan was to do no floor and just carpet or zyloatone the inside? Opinions ideas?

Flow coat? Half gelcoat half clear gel. It looks killer and stays nice and shiny if you keep it nice and clean.
