Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: BBC Diagnosis
« on: August 28, 2010, 02:29:55 AM »
Looks to me that there were more issues, the residue on the pistons are from excessive oil coming by the rings. I believe you said there was oil all over the rear and had to add. The cam looks to have some wear. Sure is a mess for 6000.00. The bores are all scored, the heads show excess oil. 3/8 fuel line never did that damage.

High volume push about 25% more oil and do not raise pressure. Why not put low oil switch and wire to big light on dash. The warning light you can see however how many times can you look at the gauges when running. Also a oil accumulator is a good investment to keep oil pressure at all times.

It does not have a gauge it is a flow device that reuces the flow to 25 lbs on the discharge end.

Better check your oil to see if is contaminated with fuel, if it is drain and relpace . Besure to check fuel pressure 6-7 lbs is all you need. If the pan is loaded it would account for the oil drop however better to check to see if ithere is damage to the engine.

Did you use the center metal valley tray gasket? It takes up space that obvious you have, not only vacumn leaks but throws oil out everywhere.

I have the same setup.I added a Moroso 1 1/2 quart oil accumulator with mine and works great in keeping the oil pressure and flow up. Actually adds extra oil without modifing pan. You can get one that will add 3 quart mre oil.

Check for vacunm leaks and set the corner screws in and the out to 1 1/2 turns out. Be sure the air bleeds are clear, spray them with wd 40.

Buit a set of wet manifolds for my FE Ford many years ago, ran perfect. Those years mig, tig welders were not yet used. I brazed them and never had a problem, the braze for my part take vibration better than welds. Keep up the good work.

Marine dist, alternators, starters are enclosed for spark explosion and carburators have a J tube in lieu of vent tubes. Electric fuel pump have saftey switch shut down .Now that is necessary for enclosed engine compartmants. Most ,if not all , open cockpit use only automotive equipment.

I would check the fuel bowls for gelled gas from sitting with ethonol doesn't take long or as least run some gas stabalizer thru.

I have it as close to the tank before the fuel pump. It is a Carter 112 GPH pump that runs when the ign is turned on. I use the Marine version at Summit $ 69.00, been runing the pump for the last5 years no problem.

170
There is a performance excentric that replaces the stock one. however the other one will work with stock pump the replacement is for heavy duty pumps.

I have a pair for the engine to stringer, they are heavy.

Ford makes a heavy duty piece for the pump.

173
I myself use both, the electric keeps the prime up, no start troubles.

Just get to run twist give it more to smooth out. You want your total to be at 2500 -3000 rpm. The inital will be what it is at idle. The total is what you after, each dist springs will vary.
