Keep your foot out of it, keep up on the maintenance and you would see probably 17-20 if your lucky on a bone stock 6oh(no) powerstroke. If your that die hard about it you could get a 04 excursion and swap in a 05-06 6.0 engine. 03-04's were the big problem child 05's were better but the 06 motor if I remember correctly had all the querks worked out. But if your lucky you can still find a 7.3 ex under 150k for around 10. There's one right now at a used lot right now for 13k and its got 90 on the od that belongs to the guy that owns the lot. Wifes in the air about it or it would be in my drive way. 7.3 would be the way to go 6ohs can be good motors if taken care of and have a few mods done to them. The 6.4 is hit an miss. $600 chip and tunes and your in the 600hp range with no other supporting mods but if your fuel system craps 12k just to repair it. And the 6.7 seems to be a great motor unless you mod the hell out of it then the pistons like to window the block.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Lifter, valve or pushrod wtf
« on: September 25, 2012, 08:41:06 AM »
1 qt would make a difference depending on your oil pan and where your pick up is located. I usually listen for my lifters every time I fire up one of my bb chevys. Usually in my chevelle noisy lifters after about 5 mins of run time means im about a 1-1.5 qts low. And with 600+ hours and you saying two cylinders are little lower I would think you have a little more blow by than stock and running 4500+ for extended periods I wouldn't see why 1 quart loss wouldn't be expected. After 5 trips down the 1/4 with my 496 I have burned off about a quart and that's a big block with no more than 50 miles or 10 hours on run time.

The No Wake Zone / Looking at a 66 bug
« on: September 17, 2012, 01:50:31 PM »

So its been a while since I have owned or been around a bug but im looking to trade my quad (05 honda trx450r) for this 66. Tired of driving my company truck everywhere and worrying about getting busted. Guy said the motor is a rebuilt dp1600 with a freeway flyer that was rebuilt about a year ago and its got a few other things that have been replaced. Let me know what you think and for you vw savvy guys what should I look at and what should compression numbers be on this 50hp beast. Its no race car but it will get me around for cheap and I don't have to worry about taking my wifes car and leaving her stranded. Don't really like driving a powder blue highlander with flower stickers all over the back window anyways.

Well a jeeps a jeep I personally would take the toyota over one but they are fun. I personally have a soft spot for k5's and there's quite a few for 3k and under on cl in the ie section. Only downside is a v8 if your trying to be conservative with fuel. But a toyota  22r will run for ever and selling a toyota 4x4 is never hard to do. If set up right gearing and tire wise it should have enough power to scoot down the freeway, tow a boat and have more than enough grunt on the trail. Parts are cheap is depending on what you break and there's quite a few toyotas at pick a part if you add some character to the body or just want spare trail parts. Iirc this would be for you and your son? It would be a good starter to get into off roading and crawling just a matter of setting it up to what you plan on doing, a Sas would be the way to go imp but. Either way it would be a nice first vehicle.
