If you were outpowering the 'cuzzi, rpms would be off the charts. Seems like you have a problem powering the pump to begin with, to me. So Boost is making the correct diagnosis that the basics are screwed.

FWIW, Ralph's expertise not withstanding, I've seen some VERY hot running Hondo's out here locally and cannot say it's a "crap" hull. Moo held her own last year, This year Pickles done fine for a 350 or so HP BBC, but quite a few Hondo's (and others) have handed me my ass this year playing around. Some of those I know for a fact woulda handed Moo her ass similarly even were she even running right (Flytime was in Moo to hear the pop that was the indicator something was seriously wrong at the Tom Papp deal, little did I know, and two trips later it REALLY reared its ugly head).

Anyway, unless your pushing well over tha 5k rpm line, the pump is NOT the problem. And could very well be, as Boost pointed out, a tune issue to get to that point where the pump IS the issue. Even then, your 'Cuzzi can be worked to handle this. The work involved in switching, well, I'll leave that to Tom or JIm, but ain't cheap. Then you still have to build a different pump that you were gonna build anyway.

You're gonna be fine with the Jacuzzi WJ. I have one. Several Berks as well that I prefer, but it performs VERY well, kindof impressed with it, really. Friend of mine just bought a Hondo with the AT energizer kit that works well also.

Don't let the horror stories from us bench racers get to ya. The cost vs the benefit of changing to a Berk, and THEN building the Berk to run like the wind? not worth it. Throw less money at the Jacuzzi and it'll perform.

In all honesty, it totally depends on the rest of the setup. The only time you will see a substantial increase going to headers is if your combo really needs the extra breath-ability of the less restrictive pipes...

It would also depend whether or not muffles are used, if you need to muffle things down to where you are with the logs, it will be a wash...

I always recommend headers from a performance standpoint, it just depends on how the boat is used and set up...

Also, watch and read your plugs after the install. The increased flow is worth it, IMO, but more outflow needs more inflow, THERE'S where you'll see the gains. Not just from the headers..... 

Not gonna get into the noise debate. These things are just plain loud no matter what exhaust you're running.......

The guy I bought it from told me that he sucked something up into the jet and it started making a loud noise. He got an estimate for the repair and decided to park it. I believe him on this. The trailer and boat registration both expired in '07 (the same year he bought it) When I got the boat home, I started it and verified that the jet makes noise. A friend and I partially took the jet apart and we found a baseball cap in it. We think that he continued to drive the boat with the baseball cap in there as opposed to shutting it down and getting a tow.

If it was just the cap in there, yeah, the whole boat would shake and shimmy like a mofo. Did it many times with rocks in the impeller. I really cant see the cap completely ruining the pump, though, unless he ran it a LOT ..........personally, I'd drop it in the lake and see what it does WITHOUT the baseball cap in it.......   These pumps have been running well for over 40 years sucking up you name it. I've personally seen diapers, ski ropes, sunglasses, and I think in was Ralph I heard processed a duck through one. The things are pretty damn resilient.

Brad and I kinda jacked up a rock grate and inducer on a wet bike that had problems on a beach once. Took a 3' prybar I carry in my boat to get the rock out, but the guy was happy as hell! Thing ran fine.

how do you get a roost like that

There's only 2 setups I've ever seen personally, and specifically, built for that! One, is obviously Rivertard. Just insane. The other is our founding father Brad. I've witnessed Rivertard completely clearing bridges, and also have a hi-rez pic somewhere of Brad hitting the bottom of the Parker bridge (Rivertard was in my boat when I took the pic, dont remember which boat it was, I think the Pickle.), and Brad did it with a fat 20' cruiser! I'll dig it up, I know I sent it to Brad also. Makes my lil Moo (1.0) look like a child by comparison, which I was pretty proud of her for tagging the AVI bridge with a mostly stock JE pump, unmodified diverter and somewhere close to 600 HP with a close to 400' long roost.



What it takes? It's more what you can live with. Brad will be the first to tell you his cruiser is squirrely as hell running that way. Mikes prolly is too, but both of them have decades of experience driving these boats and you will note, there's NEVER another boat underway anywhere near them when they do these stunts in the pics. Including Rivertards famous "wheelie" where the boat is seriously, near vertical and you can actually SEE part of the intake on the bottom of the boat.

But if you really wanna challenge these guys on this, first are extensive grinding, droops, wedges (Rooster booster's maybe), and impeller work. Second, to be able to do it properly, a LOT of HP. Brad does his with probably around 400 HP and change. Dunno how that is really possible, save a big heavy boat. Mike? well, that's another animal. Closer to a 1/2 TON of HP, mods on the pump, droop, etc that would even make the pump designers cringe. Loaders go without saying, and I'm not gonna get into inducers as I don't beleive either of these guys are running one.

OK here's the plan . . .   GT is gonna design a canon that TJS can whip up in a week or two.   We mount it on Ray's Trawler (cuz its the biggest in the fleet) and we make a field trip for educational purposes to Tejas.
