aaaa, which jet? some brands use grease and gear oil / and some use grease only
1st. remove all rocks and pieces of rope from impeller and grate on bottom of boat
2nd. use lots of lube or gear oil....i lube the bearings everytime i go out
3dr. check all cable connections for froze up or rusted cables...i guess thats it......not much to do to a jet , just dont suck anything but water up in it...

also if your worried about some extra weight, you could always go with a great deepcycle battery, either a odyssey or a kenetic, a range of compact sizes and amp hours you can mount them in any position leak proof,and take a beating and work great...in my opinion "optima" batteries suck, all of them red/yellow/even blue ones.....

with a extra harness or something, i dont see why you couldnt charge your boat batteries....its just like hooking up an enclosed trailer and charging the "house battery" as you drive, you would have to bump up your trailer harness plug to the 7 prong plug to access that "hot wire"...
