Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Rub Rail
« on: December 15, 2013, 03:23:03 PM »

Whats up Kaotyk, man thats alot work. Any recommendation on filler and resin, will the syringe type resin and filler mixture work. i know its a stupid question.
I would use a mix resin with cabosil till it's a penutbutter ,then fill all the holes with that. Easy and wouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: A little winter overhaul
« on: December 15, 2013, 03:16:02 PM »

That looks clean. Did you remove the center floor or is that the way it was

Sent from my iPad using SoCalJetBoats
It's a tunnel hull, there is no floor really. If you take your time and make everything smooth and straight, you'll have a awesome looking floor.

So I need some input from you fello boaters should I glass inn the seat buckets so they don't ever move or come out or rig it to be removable and I was tossen the ideal around of epoxy coating the hole inside of the boat instead of Capet what's your thought  ???

I would glass them in JMO. As for the epoxy coat... DON'T! It will not last and will look like hell. It you are looking for color on the floor i would flow coat it. Prep the floor and get it nice and smooth. Then prep with 100 grit and spray it. Flow coat is a Half gel coat and half clear coat. If done right, it will be a walk away finish.

« on: December 15, 2013, 11:15:11 AM »

where would you go to get all the gaskets you need for replacing same in an engine...I am not doing a rebuild just an inspection to determine what all is in the engine...

such as the intake, exhaust, heads, carb, fuel pump, water pump, thermostat housing etc..

thanks
Hell I got mine from autozone. Lol!

I had a 78 SWTD back in the late 80's, handled like a dream and very forgiving. 75 MPH on pump gas with a Mondello 460. hated to let it go
I remember you saying that your boat now belongs to my buddy HBInHeat. That boat now runs deep in the 90's with pump gas 509 bbf. It runs really well.

Jet Pumps / Re: Impeller size
« on: December 14, 2013, 01:26:01 PM »

I'd like to know those tricks. Weeds got so bad that from boat launch at Pirate Cove to gas station, I had to jump in water and pull boat to shore. Pump so full that it had Zero maneuverability. As for the pump, I'm going to be running 340hp at 3600rpm and 500hp from 5200-5800rpm at 6lbs of boost. Next winter upgrading bottom end of engine to handle more, 430hp at 3600rpm and 600+hp from 4800-6000rpm at 14lbs boost.
Depends on what you want to achieve here. If it's just a river curser I would stick with an A. You'll have a great hole shot and it will pull hard but you won't make it up there in the peek RPMs. If it's speed your after you'll want to match the impeller to the Peek RPM. I would try a B or b/c

Theres a reason they call them southwind ass draggers :o ;D
You just can't be afraid to work on hardware with these boats. it took me almost 10 river trips to figure mine out.

wow. Almost seems too good to be true. As an owner of one yourself. How do you feel these boats do as an all around hull? Not just for drag racing but for lake/river play as well

Sent from my iPhone using SoCalJetBoats
I love mine, there's no better ride than a tunnel.... Or in this case a modified v bottom lol. I've ran mine on the river with the girlfriend for the past 2 years. No problems. They are a great boat. They are normally on the heavy side. 500-800lbs bare. Just takes a bit more HP to get them to run the #. Southwind sal and Austin cole are running somewhere in the 9's with 800+hp

How would that thing work compared to my C impeller. I wish I could afford it just to see.

You would loose RPM on the top but it would pull a little harder.
