The No Wake Zone / Re: Such a Tragedy
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:20:24 PM »
you know like me and a fellow member discussed i would rather have my kids survive....i know i have no kids but i agree....do i feel sorry for the kids....absolutely, but i am sure both parents are glad! definately sad for sure...it was definately a reality check for heading out of town...so now the crazy part...my neighbors were headed for california and were in the back up from the accident...anyway me neighbor had a ceizure and everyone in the vehicle was in panic when the ambulances came by for this accident...anyway the driver got in the emergency lane and followed the paramedics to this accident where they were able to give them one paramedic to stabilize my neighbor until another ambulance could show up...small world i guess, and glad to see him still alive

Jet Pumps / Re: New Jet boat owner, have questions......

The overheating got me to thinking. Kinda with Tom, but is there any sort of sand filter? Block full of dirt, etc is what I'm leaning towards on the temp issue. Performance? I have no idea what a WJ is supposed to do in GOOD shape anyways.......

« on: August 15, 2010, 09:35:05 PM »
Before you purchase a single part or assemble anything, determine why it failed.

Which bearing spun?  Where the others on their way out too?  How did the mains look?  How much oil was in the motor when you tore it down?

X2!! Keep asking "Why" until you're completely satisfied with the answer........Or you'll be doing it again........Voices of recent similar experiences,  ;D

How rough (Lopey) is your idle? (Hot cam?). Could be loose motor mount, foot, or plate, as a minor issue. Not gonna go where else it COULD be...... :'(  I'm assuming it doesn't happen at any speed.......

If you're dead set on a Sleek, I am considering "thinning my herd", so to speak. Not gonna be nowhere near to close to that price point, but nowhere near to that end of the condition spectrum either.  ;)

« on: August 13, 2010, 09:19:37 PM »
Dang it GT   there you go again.

You teach me something just about every day on here.   I have NEVER EVER heard of mufflers for a log exhaust.

Won't fit on most of our lil boats though......too long......But a grand Idea!!!   Maybe snail up some exhaust hose.........

Sounds counter productive to me. Been running open O/T headers since I started all this and Moo 2.0 may well likely gonna be running dry Zoomies......ILoveItLoud? Bah hrumph!

Don't worry about the locals complaining. It's jealousy and envy, likely. Only worry about the Po-Po complaining......otherwise, run the friggin thing!  ;)

Get some high quality pictures......I call bullshit on the fuel line being too small.......I have proven 3/8" fuel line to be good for up to 500 HP without issue.

GT

X2, Not gonna go into detail on Moo, controversial subject, but rest assured, a bit more HP than that even, and after dissassembly, pistons, plugs, rings were perfect!

LOL! You should be fine with those suggestions, I would think. I, thinking out loud here, would probably have the bottom of the block decked a couple thou and the caps a couple, then a line hone. Careful cam degreeing (Offset keys, etc) with a good roller set SHOULD be able to offset the .004" to .005" difference between the cam and new crank centerlines. How accurate can those centerlines be to begin with, really? Always gonna be play in the timing set, else you'd never get them on by hand...... ;)

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: SEPERATING ENGINE FROM BERKLEY JET
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:35:00 PM »
Oh ya the Frost Plug I need to replce is the rear on the left side of the engine next to the starter. I also have a exhaust manifold leak on that same side so I'm removing that two. In order to get at the manifold bolts I need too raise the engine probably 6 inches to get a tool up into the manifold to remove the bolts.

OK, THIS I gotta see pics as to why......Not that you're not right, just ain't seen a manifold that would require that..... :screwy:

Ray

PS, avoid pulling the engine, needed to get it THAT high. Getting that shaft off the input of the pump can be a bear.....no pun intended, and putting it back in even more fun sometimes! Takes two guys sitting in front of the engine with their feet on it and their backs pressed up against the front seats to wiggle Moo's back on!

Jet Pumps / Re: No nozzle o-Ring
« on: August 11, 2010, 04:43:14 PM »
I don't have mine apart at the moment, but thanks alot for the pics of the JE nozzle without the o-ring. At least when I pull it apart, that will let me know if mine is supposed to have one at all. Just for conversation, does it normally affect the boat performance much if an O-ring blows out? Or is it just keep thrust from hitting the cup, and spraying all over?

Those pics HAVE the o-ring, and it is in place. The o-ring is white.

Not sure what it'd do, but probably would affect thrust coming through the nozzle, therefore affecting speed/performance and steering. I would also think it would resemble several "horizontal Rainbirds"  running simultaneously from the back of the boat at any kind of speed.  ;)

IOW, Yes, it will affect performance, it's there for a reason.

« on: August 11, 2010, 12:28:00 PM »
ps. I will take pictures for a how to (or in my case, usually  "how not to").
 ;D

Well, the 9 incher might go in without a hitch. The 5 incher, well, not much to work with there. I'm sure you heard THAT before.....

I was suggesting the tips because A: Every set of logs I have here (3) that I have tried to separate the snails from has been futile! Fuggers are ON THERE!!! I gave Aquaholic a perfectly good set of long bolt Ford logs when he only needed the snails for this very reason. B: If the logs have not been off for decades, I have yet to NOT break off one or more manifold bolts/studs, or aquire an engine or set of heads without a broken one in there. Maybe just me...... :screwy:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: valve adjustment
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:56:01 PM »
I think everyone has a little bit different way to do it. I did it with Terry last month on a BBC, and he did it differently than I ever did, but worked out great and very quick!  Comp Cams manual says a totally rediculous set of steps, and I found a few more engine specific (and complicated) ones on the internet to accomplish the same basic goal.

Goal is the same in all cases, make ABSOLUTELY sure the lifter to the valve you're about to adjust is on the cam base circle, it's that simple. It really isn't like launching a missile.  ;)

Ray

PS, FWIW, if you're getting the valves adjusted somewhere even close to right and you're losing compression, I'd be thinking you're cam timing is WAYYYYY out......like shot timing set, or not timed correctly to begin with. Just my .02

Jet Pumps / Re: No nozzle o-Ring
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:19:17 PM »
Heres a JE nozzle with the o-ring. (Moo's old one). AS you can see, there would be a pretty deep groove for it if it was just "Missing".

This is the best pic I got, and kinda hard to get one of the ride plate setup right now, but there's two bolts coming down from the bowl to the back of the ride plate on mine. One I think also holds on the steering/f/r and trim cables as well. Been awhile since I been under it.

2 questions  .  .  .

Where is that?   It doesn't look much like AZ

and my eyes are old and my monitor too,  but to me it looks a lot like a helicopter gunship above and behind that boat.  Was there somebody that needed killing?

LOL! Didn't notice the helo before......Dunno about that, Forestry maybe? Dude lives in Cincinati, so was near there, prolly on the Ohio.

But, why is it that EVERY time I see or hear about a boat burning I think of Ray?  ;D

Not sure I like your tone........ :sly:

LOL!
