THAT is a beautiful boat! And I'm telling you right now, here on the local AZ lakes, it would ROCK!

Welcome, and have fun with it!

Yeah, reserve early! This is looking bigger'n last year! (I think we got gas cards last year, didn't we?) .

If ya need a floor to crash on, we can make room Danny Boy!  ;)

THIS one should be especially fun! Somehow, and I dunno how, he must have a spy or satellite network around my place, but Rivertard caught wind of some of the things Moo is going through right now besides the engine. (I been treating the garage and backyard like Area 51 the last couple of weeks, don't know HOW he knows!, But he's kinda calling me out on this deal!).

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Wont Idle???
« on: July 26, 2010, 09:30:50 PM »
The oil pressure would concern me. Dealing with the aftermath of a similar issue on that. To quote Lakesonly on my debacle, "Ray, anytime you lose substantial oil pressure, shut it down, and tear it down". GT has some good questions as well. I run about 120-160 on Moo with headers, Pickle, with logs, 110-130 all day long.  :screwy:

Still trying to understand the "Cobra jet" manifold gaskets. These are not Cobra Jet heads?? What difference would THAT make?

Also, I don't think port matching in the intake side is of any real importance in this case. The 460 Ford heads are genereally very good on the intake side, it's the exhaust side that needs all the attention from what I understand. My D2OE's that were on Moo had substantial exhaust port work done, but only minor blending and contouring on the intake side. Considering the same setup using C9's and getting with Lakesonly on those. (Rivertard is challenging me I think for the Columbus Day get together! News at 11 on what I actually do. Shortblock should be ready this week... :sly: ).

If your oil pressure dropped that much, running like crap, pull the engine and at least have the builder take a looksee. Couple of hours to pull the engine, at most. Cost savings if somethings wrong and caught in time, priceless.

For all intents and purposes, the 429 and the 460 are the same engine. What has happened to the other 3? Something sounds amiss in the setup to me...... :screwy:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Wont Idle???
« on: July 25, 2010, 09:29:28 PM »
I sprayed ether over the manifold edges and the idle rose substantially. So either the manifold was not torqued right , or he used the wrong gasket . I have a cobra jet intake and typical 460 gaskets dont work . The one with sheet metal covering the valley . But now it has me wondering , I had to get new heads because mine were cracked . My old ones were port matched to the cobra manifold . These werent . I wonder if that will give me a sealing problem .What do you guys think ???????? Hope not i am out of money and leaving for Parker Thursday . Btw the boat will be at the engine builders bright and early tomorrow am .

Just a thought, but if any substantial material was removed in decking the block, the intake will need machining to match as well. Dave would be the one to ask on that though.

Could also be that the intake was machined correctly for your old heads if they, and/or the deck, were resurfaced before, same issue. Fel-Pro makes a marine intake gasket kit that I use, and I also cut up the tray from the old gaskets to still use it. Just no end seals, RTV above and below the pan.

Proppy and I have been, well, "Negotiating" and "Navigating" over this for some time. Plentiful around me for some reason, but not at the lakes. Is available in Parker and Laughlin tho!  , checked that out first thing! Some of the local gang here want to see me do it first. Sorry to post a thread from the "other" site, but that's where the answers were.

http://www.performanceboats.com/html/forums/showthread.php?t=64183

Pickles blown BBC will be E85. It's kindof on the backburner 'til Moo is fixed and running again and I put together the bread to finish it. Still arguing with myself on Moo............(now that all my visitors have left, I can get the arguement back on. Those people just DIDN'T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!) Biggest arguement is cioming from RJ, who does NOT want a huffer on Moo.  :screwy: kid.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Which cam?
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:11:32 PM »
I'm with Crewcheif on the cam he mentioned. Kinda hard to beat the Comp 292 marine cam in a mild/medium application. Ran the 305 Solid lifter version in Moo and was very happy with it. It might make a reappearance, in fact (Long story, but I'm still not sure what this engine will look like when I get it back this week, N/A on AVgas again, or worse on E85). But you'll get the rump you want and some gianormous top end performance from them.

If I remember right, I think the 280/292 deals are right at where they recommend forged pistons, chrome moly pushrods, etc, etc. Theres quite a few on here running much bigger cams on pleasure craft, Marcsrollin, CJ222, Rivertard to name a few, but there's a LOT of hardware to back them up in those engines as well.

If you're gonna do it tho, yeah, buy the whole friggin kit, the springs and all. Will save you headache and heartache later   ;)

Jet Pumps / Re: Trim Indicator?
« on: July 23, 2010, 09:22:36 AM »
Did you note the fuel ending unit? hat right there is the trim indicator....

They use the potentiometer from the fuel sender for sending the signal to the gauge....

Pretty backwoods, but very effective, not to mention cheap (meaning inexpensive)...

GT

Just kinda figured that out dragging one out for the pic Glenn. Sooooooo, that means you can just use a fuel level guage as a trim guage? relabel it, of course, Oh this poor lil Sag's in for it!

Naw. Reg numbers are different. Could be twins tho! Impressed the hell out of me, that thing navigating the length of Sag lake to Sandy Beach on a busy Saturday! Noone knew the guy, he just showed up with it.

Jet Pumps / Re: Trim Indicator?
« on: July 23, 2010, 08:26:58 AM »
Is this what you got Bruce?

Got 2 spares here for ya!  ;)

I don't know that they're inferior to the Hydraulic PD unit, really. Just different. Pretty ingenious, if you ask me. I'd use them on the Twin Jet, but since getting to them for service, etc, once the boat is done, would involve a lot of spelunking in the engine compartment and probably require I be double jointed. Hence, it's going hydraulic PD units (Might as well, it's already set up for 2 other hydraulic pumps for the Bennett tabs and the hatch, what's 2 more?  :screwy: )

I may put one of them on the Yellow Submarine, however, since  have both nozzles and these layin around here anyway, just to see how well it works.   My Unc had one on his Biesemeyer and loved it.

« on: July 23, 2010, 12:28:24 AM »
Ours do too, sometimes, why we always push off then walk the deck in some cases (I do this all the time regardless, I can fix scratches easier and cheaper than a pump  )

In Texas, everything's supposed to be bigger, so your lakes and rivers must be like 1000 ft deep..... >:D

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: cleaning out aluminum gas tanks
« on: July 22, 2010, 11:47:27 PM »
I think I remember reading somewhere where someone, half filled the tanks with water and a heavy concentration of detergent, then drove through a neighbor hood with speed bumps several times with shot bags full of brass nuts and bolts. When he got back, he used his already rigged his shop vac with duct tape and several pieces of PVC and then to copper tube to suck it all out........Sounds crazy, but makes kinda sense!  :screwy:

I'll see if I can find it, wasn't here I don't think.
