Brad what do you think about putting McIntyre on your poll ??? Granted there are no casinos there, which how many of us jet boaters really can afford to gamble anyway, LOL. There are motels nearby, have my place that everyone could hang at, just a thought.
Mac all the way!!! Haha hell, if they plan it the weekend of woodsy washer deal they won't need any casinos.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Gelcoat question
« on: July 31, 2013, 03:57:14 PM »
Hi All,

I was looking for some White gelcoat to fill in a couple of screwholes from my windshield. I found what i need and will buy it today.

however i stumbled over some "clear" gelcoat. Clear Gel Coat in stock for same day shipping | Fibre Glast

My question is if i prep my boat and get a good bite on it, can i lay this "clear" gel coat over the colors that i currently have and it is more or less going to clear coat the boat? It has a decent shine now, but you can tell its had some time in the sun and the colorsanding i did did not help too much.

Thanks
Steve

The problem with gel coat is it doesen't lay flat. It orange peels bad. Trust me. Ive re Geled 3 boats and its not a fun time when it comes to getting that peel out. I would give it a good cut and buff with some 3M or the New Boat candy line or compounds and polishes.
As for the holes i would use some cabosil mixed with white gel coat. sand and cut and buff.

Cool Ben! Glad your going to be a perm.

Yeah. I used to leave the Green boat down there and had no problems. never leave the SWTD. Theres no room at my dads place. When i get a perm spot ill leave it down there

Anyone have a good source for a boat cover? Hopefully one that is "streetable" and also very weather resistant and of course cheap :D

I'm in San Diego so a source near here would be good.

Walmart. thats where i got mine for the SWTD. 100 bucks and its nice.

Talk with the boys over at sher fab in ontario. They will have everything you need and will give a bunch of advice. Try and talk to A.J he is the guy to talk to. Epoxy is very Pricey right now. I would go with a polly resin and some 1708 bi-axle matt for the transom.  For the intake hole i would back the bottom with some sort of plastic with PVA and do multiple layers of 3 oz mat and 10 oz cloth. Maybe add some 1708 in there. JMO

Congrats on picking up that southwind tunnel. Should work well with the right set up. Depending on the impeller cut you can spin the pump no problem. But it also depends on where your motor makes peek hp. My motor makes peek at 6500 and my impeller is a b- and I spin 6300.

Jake the Nordic is a somewhat heavy hull and will handle the HP.....
I am not saying that it won't handle it hp. I've herd lots of stories that southwinds and Nordics that run in the upper 90's start to get handling problems, "lots of lift built into those hulls" I also herd that bottom work will make it worse if it's not done exactly right. Not trying knock your boat.

« on: July 12, 2013, 07:49:58 PM »
After spending the 4th in Blythe, ive decided i want a Jet. But i want a project that i need to "build" from the bottom up. Im looking for something that has atleast the jet and i believe i want either a dominator or berkeley? I guess my question is if you were looking for a boat, that you want to build and plan on putting some pretty decent horsepower to (650+) what pre-reqs would you have?

Im not looking for triple digits but would like to be 80+, im looking at "v hulls" like a southwind or tahiti etc? I know there are lots in this design. What would be the most sought after or best for what i plan to do? Im not looking to buy anything right now but maybe in a couple of months.

In otherwords, if someone can "school" me on jet boats that would be great

thanks!
Steve

I hope i didnt give you that itch making passes on thursday and friday in the swtd ;). Like said above. Miller, southwind, Bahner, Rogers, Hallet, eliminator, would do well. I would stay away from the nordic and the southwind with bigger HP, they tend to have a porpoising issues with some of them. I am looking for a miller or a rogers to replace my Southwind 18 right now.

Things i would look for
+ Gel or paint is in good condition( ive re done to many boats)
+full stringers
+no glass work
+ berk or Dominator jet w/ Split bowl and diverter
+tandem axle trailer.

Good luck bud
