Safety chains I was stop ed once and the officer looked my trailer over was going a little over speed limit he looked at safety chain and told ME I can write you a ticket for that safety chain I said why it was 1/2 trucker HI/ten chain he said OK be smart take trailer lose from truck he said now leave safety chain on if you trailer hits ground it is not legal. I drop ed trailer and chain held it up he told me at that time I should think about putting two chains on trailer in a cross form  so that way trailer if it were to come lose it would be supported in the cross of the chains and would never hit ground if done so trailer would stay with tow vehicle till you stop.
