I run one tank until the gauge hits close to empty.  then switch..... it reminds me me when I forget by usually running out at the most inopportune time....

No; I have 2 - 20 gal tanks.  I can run and ski and drag the kids around on the. tube most of the day before I swap tanks....... theres fuel on the lake I usually run on if necessary.

not to take the wind out of your sails but fiberglass tanks need to be addressed.   old fiberglass tanks break down and leak, especially with newer fuel mixtures, and a fuel leak in a boat is NOT something you want to have.  aluminum tanks can be found for relatively cheap and they come around often.  i would recommend that you replace them ASAP and dont run the boat with them.  if your tanks are deteriorating you're going to suck resin'ed fuel into your motor, coat all your intake, carb, etc with resin and it will be a total bummer.  but most importantly for your safety and your family/friends safety.

Only lakes where I live now.... its 1600 miles to the River..... no currents etc. where I boat.......  I am quite skilled at using the combo - docking / loading etc... and at the first 1/3 of the throttle, it will "back down" of I pull my hand off it, and it only stay's on when pushed past that point.  I like it, and it keeps the front of the entry to the bow clear to stow gear ice chest/etc. etc. and an open place to chill .  I have a small vinyl covered foam "mat" the kids can snooze-rest on. I also do not push the boat where I might fling myself out of it. :o...  the GF would uhhhhh frown on that. ;)

Anyone recognize this type /  throttle shifter combo??
 
Sunday, the pull pin that allows it to go into 'neutral' would not release and of course I was in reverse   :mad:.

 I took it apart out on the lake and pulled the housing off the rail to try and get it to work. the plate that holds the cables to the shifter box was a little loose I tightened it, and after a few minutes I finally got it to release. there were no MFG markings I could see on it.

any suggestions re: maintenance??  there was no corrosion to speak of but I did not try and pull the handle off the box to get inside it.... I will be pulling it this week to have a look / see.

Not sure , I'd have to look at the receipt .....

They are not warped, they are 'square' .... But the bolt holes are out of line and different heights...  bad execution by the welder. Or.... The welder was stoned ...... Or was hung over or something.

The 'wells' where the bolts dropped thru the top of the covers are off.  The shoulder of the bolts would not seat on 4 of the 14 bolts... And there were 2 spots I found where the welder burned thru and left voids....

These cheapo steel covers I bought work....   

Go figure...

I'm 90 miles from home; out on the lake on vacation......these &)(£<%# aluminum valve covers are designed to leak I'm positive.....

The steel ones I bought came in, so I got up early this morning.....and drove the 90 miles back home, bought new gaskets;drove back to the lake....installed and oh yessssss....... they DO NOT LEAK!!!

The expensive,hand welded, look really nice,but leak like a sieve valve covers are headed for the scrap pile.....
