Hey Propless
Looks to me like you're making good progress--easy for me to say. It amases me how the mind works--when you finish, you're going to have so much fun talking about the project and spending time at the lake that you will forget all the depressing negatives (late nights, itchy fiberglass, things that won't fit, blown budget, ...) while putting it all together. In fact, you'll probably think about how much fun it was to build your own boat, and when you will do it again. Ask me how I know this to be true.

No raggin', just encouragement. I'd really like to see that boat running next month.

I was at Fiberglass Unlimited in Clovis (Fresno) a while back and they had several sitting up in their rafters--I think rails that they have removed from Sanger mini cruisers that they have redone. I had never had one before and was considering taking it off. When I asked Manny about it, he suggested I leave it on, and I'm glad I did--it does come in handy. I got the impression that they were just extras hanging up out of the way, so you might be able to get one and modify it cheaper than building new.

Manny and Vito, owners, got started laying up boats at Sanger in the 60s, are great guys, and do good fiberglass work. Might be worth it to give them a call, they would probably know if what they have would work for your carrera--Fiberglass Unlimited, (559) 299-8826. Might also have a suggestion on where to have one fabricated.

Haven't been to Redinger in years--we used to go there back in the 70s on holiday weekends to escape the crowds, but, oh, that tow of the last 8 or so miles on that narrow dirt road was tough. It sure kept out alot of recreational type boaters, but we saw alot of hot boats looking for a quiet place to run with no real restrictions or LE scrutiny. However, the lake was so narrow that in some places we had to stop skiing to turn around and go the other way, and just a few hot boats made it kind of dangerous. Now, I understand there is a 35 MPH limit on the lake, and only the one ramp.

Yes it is--I love to go to Shasta, probably my favorite lake in CA, but it is a 6+ hour tow for me. Also, I've been at Shasta when it was 110* outside. Shaver, on the other hand is much smaller, but at 5500' elevation, so it is always 20* cooler than the valley. I imagine that you could make the tow in about 3 hrs, maybe a little more. There is an excellent camp ground (Edison) with good facilities for either tent camping or RVs. We have a cabin there and it looks like I'm going to be "stuck" up there most of the summer, so if you want to come over and check us out, give me a call.

Well, it's not in SoCal, but I will be at Shaver Lake for the fourth. Located about 50 mi northeast of Fresno, at an elevation of 5500 ft, it is a beautiful (and cool--daytime temps in the high 70s/low 80s) place to boat. Fireworks are planned for Saturday, the fifth. Here are a few pictures taken last Saturday at about 4:00.

Boats For Sale / 20' NORDIC MINI CRUISER--$6000.

1978 20' Nordic mini cruiser
BBC/poished Dominator pump, place droop, diverter. Hull has full stringers, a solid ride, and shiney off white/orange gel.. Interior is not perfect, but decent and very usable. Nice, solid, matching tandem axel trailer. I have enjoyed this boat because it has the best of both worlds--space for passengers (seats 6 adults), ice chests/stuff, and leg room, but with the performance of an 18' jet boat.

I would still be running it myself, but I had a chance to buy my 20' Sanger v-drive mini cruiser. So, the Nordic needs to go. $6,000

(Please note that 454 no longer has tunnel ram--replaced it with performer/single card and gained mph plus fuel economy)

Just had a similar problem--turned out to be low fuel pressure/volume due to a clogged pressure regulator. Also I had exactly the same problem years ago--ended up being a clogged fuel pickup in the gas tanks. I finally traced it down by running a fuel line through the fill into the tank, bypassing the pickup. Finally, I've also seen a weak mechanical fuel pump cause the same problem.

I have a set exactly like these that I was told were original on my 1975 Sanger mini cruiser v-drive. I was surprised that the threaded on caps hadn't been dropped overboard in their 33 years of service.

I have a set of logs with nicson 3.5" risers. Seem to be less restrictive than typical log/snail combination, but still through transom and water cooled. I ran them for several years on a 20' Nordic mini cruiser, but now they're taking up space in the garage. $400.

I have a set of aluminum valve covers--I think hardin. They are dull, but I polished one end and it shined up pretty well. I also have a set of Ka heads. $50 for the valve covers and $200 for the heads.

We have a Sanger mini just like ryanbrindle's (even the same color combination) that we flipped with 2 cherry pickers and 3 people. I've flipped 18' hulls by myself with the cherry pickers, but I was surprised how much heavier and how much wider the cruiser was and how much higher we had to jack it into the air. It was kind of scary seeing it hanging that high up in the air, and it took alot more force to get it to turn.
