I picked up some basset headers for me 79 southwind. I'm also looking for a (HEI distributor) for the 455.
.......I am hoping that someone can tell me the make and/or year of this boat......It was my Dad's boat, that's me in the back of the wagon....this picture was taken around '75..... All I know for sure is it had a 455 Olds and a Berkley jet. He sold it around 1985 in Antioch California. My Pop passed in 2012 and I want to see if I can find his old boat..... Guys have the stock 460 ford ignition / still points (prestolite) , WTB the electronic conversion kit online , any recommendations ? What brand ? How do I know it's the right one. What about a new coil. Thanks everyone

I have never had a Sanger, but from what Iv heard/known... The SJ are prone to cracking on the floor right under the driver seat... Check there...
If you plan on building a warmed over Olds, make sure you pay big attention to building the lower end correctly.
Timinator wrote a great article on how to correctly build an Olds for power and reliability.

The drivers seat did have a few extra mounts on it, probably a good indication of the crack your talking about, thanks for the heads up.
Plan to run H-Beam rods, forged flat tops, balanced assembly with rear of heads drilled for 1/2" oil returns to a 10 quart dooley pan. Built a lot of motors never had to many bottom end problems! Good rods / lots of oil / and balanced. And know when to let off the skinny pedal.
You really need to read the article I indicated.
Doesn't sound like you have a grasp of what actually needs to be done to the olds for reliability. Your h beam rods without the right prep and machining doesn't mean much.
Olds engines for jet boats are completely different animals than any engine you have or will build.
What heads you plan on running with these "flat top" pistons?

Don't know if I will need to. It feels solid. Once I get all the old carpet and everything striped out I will get a better idea if I will need to. Is there a reason you asked? Is there something I need to look for?
Just going to run a pissed off olds motor so I won't be making any big #s for HP. Probably won't spray more then a 150 shot.
How did you know it was a olds? Those pics really don't show it
