sweet!  thanks for the info.  I will probably only go with two batteries then.  Three sounds a little complicated.  I am just going to be running a couple amps and subs so just wanted to make sure i've got a battery to rely on for starting and running.

LOL...I guess brad was right when he said i opened a can of worms.  The motor is pretty much stock right now no mods as far as i know.  I pick it up tomorrow evening and will know more then.  I will also post pics of the motor, etc tomorrow as well.  The guy just had the motor gone through and changed the oil, plugs, wires, etc.  So hopefully it won't Implode on me.   I have to run the 460 this season no matter what anyways.  I'm not too sure if the boat came with the 460 stock or if someone along the line put it in.

so basically as long as i dont push the 460 too much i should be okay for a season??  I would rather run it for a season and then sell it with some life in it then use that cash to buy the 454

LOL.  I just want to figure out what the best choice is going to be.  Everyone seems to bash the 460 (ford motors in general), so I figured that if that many people have bad stuff to say about it maybe it might be worth it to switch to a 454.

Has anyone done this?  Whats the difference in reliability and hp between the two?  Would it require some type of adapter plate for the berk jet to still work properly?  You guys have got me pondering on switching

How do you install another battery?  I am thinking about running possibly 3 batteries and wanna know how you install them and what you need to do it?  I am going to be running a mild stereo system and want to make sure that it wont drain my main battery.  thanks

What motor are you running in yours??  What has been your top speed so far?  Im hoping the 460 wont disappoint me too much.  I know they like to break down but im not planning on getting too crazy with it.

I have got a buddy of mine who has a place in parker so i might be down that way sometime this season.  It has a berkley jet not too sure what model yet.  I called and got a quote from a company in riverside that will re-glass the wood, install new carpet, and re-upholster the interior with a new look for $2000.  I am still trying to decide if i want to do the captain seats with the bench/engine hatch in the back.  I kinda like having the extra seating.  I would definatly be interested in seeing the pics of your interior when its done.  That would probably actually be the deciding factor in what i decide to do.  This is the first boat i'll have with a place diverter so it will be new for me!  Im pretty stoked on it though

I am picking the boat up on thursday evening.  The motor is being serviced right now so i dont have any pics of the motor yet will post them once i get it.  We are planning on revamping the interior this season and probably change up the gel coat next season (one step at a time).  Let me  know what you guys think and feedback on the motor/hull.  Thanks

thank you for the info.  i will be taking your advise and run it first and see if i am happy with it.  The last boat i had, had an outboard motor so jetboats are fairly odd to me still.  i had a jet boat with a 455 but burnt up the motor and sold it.  I am just worried to have the same problem with this boat.  its a 20.5ft closed bow so hopefully it will get going fairly fast.  The outboard motor ran at 50mph with a merc 115 on a 17ft.  i would be happy going the same speed.  however if it is slower knowing myself i will be on the market for some bolt on mods soon.

I guess first and foremost since the motor has an engine cover i should probably take some measurements and see what i am able to do.

im picking it up on tuesday and will take and post pics of the boat and motor then.  i think i would consider myself to be in the middle class.  ultimately reliability is most crucial to me, however i would like it to be mildly modded.

well i just bought a 78 crusader with a 460 in it.  when i went onto summit they had the 460 but said there was a 7.5ltr & 8.0ltr.  I was looking for any high perf parts for it in general.  Right now it is pretty stock

Let me just start with "I dont know anything about building motors".  With that said, with the 460 how do you know if it is the 8.0 or 7.5?  Where do you guys find all the high perf. parts for them (tunnel rams, high flow carbs, headers, etc.)? I tried summit but couldnt find too much.  maybe I just didnt know what to look for.
