A popping at WFO means QUIT RUNNING IT WFO until you have exhausted most everything he said, or you the carb won't be the only thing you are rebuilding.

Jetted lean, low fuel volume/pressure, sucked intake gasket/base gasket, garbage in the carburetor, low float level, poor tank ventilation, plugged pick up tube, kinked fuel line, bad fuel pump, fuel line air leak, carburetor too large and not set up correctly.

Trying to troubleshoot a problem my friend is having......has a lot of popping coming out of the carb at WOT....doesn't do it at idle or cruise speed just WOT....sounds like a popcorn machine....460 w/ Holley 750... Suggestions and ideas greatly appreciated...

I'm nowhere near a mechanic, but I had the same thing happen to my motor and I was told it was because of too much crank case pressure caused from water getting into the motor from my o/t headers....if your distributor was the slightest bit loose the pressure has nowhere else to go but out any space it can.

Her is a pic of my cam card and a video of what it sounds like. I bought the matching springs with the cam. I also have 049 heads. I am very pleased with the performance of my boat. The torque through the powerband is outstanding. Sounds bitchin' too.

Not sure what has been done....this is the first time I've taken it this far apart....it's a 396 bored .30 over (I think) ,don't know the clearances, "A" impeller. From some research I'm guessing the compression is 10.25-1....

Motor full of fine metal shavings.... Pull it down and measure everything... JMHO.. Also check the front thrust surface of the block behind where the cam sprocket rides.

You screwing with me? You cannot knock a lobe off of a cam without passing quite a lot of metal throughout the engine. Simply cannot be done.
