I/O's / Trim for top speed
« on: May 19, 2014, 03:00:47 PM »
Hey there fellas, I have a 83, 21 ft open bow Carrera, with a 330 hp 350, and Volvo 290 outdrive. I was curious how to make my manual trim tabs work best for top speed. Does this boat even need the trim tabs? Right now, they are slighty down. What is the best position to have them in? What kind of top speed should this boat get?

Thanks

Yeah, pretty nice lake. Not too crowded. A bunch of cool coves. Be good to invest in a map of the lake.

If you do make a trip up this way PM me and we'll try to get together. Maybe I can show you around a little.

I got a motor upgrade to handle right now, but should be good by about middle of April.

It was ran for 20 minutes in a test hull at Mastercraft. Parked it in the yard and winter time came around. Pretty common thing around here.

I haven't been able to find any in this condition, and especially not for 400 bones.

I'm not really too interested in the cracked block part of the equation as much as the removal and installation. And can this outdrive handle the HP of the Vortec.

I got a 83 Carrera open bow, 21 footer. It has a Volvo Penta 350 and a Volvo Penta 290 outdrive. The motor got HOT and is gotta go( spark plugs are caked with water/oil mix).
I found me a Vortec 350 outta a 05 Mastercraft with the Electronic throttle body. The computer(ECM) is still hooked up and is a, hook the hot and ground up and go(plug and play). The motor has about 20 minutes on it. It also has a cracked block( in the same spot as usual, beow the exhaust manifolds). I am going to do a JB weld job to the block.
I have the money budgeted to have a shop do the work, but am considering saving the money and doing it myself.
How big a job is aligning the motor with the outdrive?
Do I have to have any specility tools or can I imprevise?
Will the 290 outdrive hold up to the 340 HP from the new motor?
Any help would be much appreciated

Where you planning on doing most of your boating at?

I actually just got a 21 Carrera shipped in from Lakeside, CA about a month and half ago. My first boat.

I Live on Tims Ford Lake.

Trailers / Re: Bearing buddies

You should replace them with Trailer Buddy's. The size on them is actually 19.80 and they shouldn't come off. Plus they have double o-rings and shouldn't be slinging grease. They also got a trick little cap that looks good. You shouldn't need a bra.
