It does not smoke at idle, no soot at all. I haven't taken any plug readings because I have not had it in the water.
I modified thelinkage to where it's pulling the secondarys open just like they are on my 850 dp.

By the way it's now set up as 1:1 on the secondarys

Well ,left the shop today and damn she runs good. It revs crazy fast no bogs, backfires, or pops. Only thing is if I idle it down below 2000 rpms it dies.

My bad, 4 corner fuel mix screws.
I have the front carb vacuum large port hooked up to pcv valve, should I hook up 2nd carb to other side and run 2 pcv valves? Could just having to front carb hooked up cause an imbalance of vacuum between the carbs?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Carb question
« on: June 06, 2014, 03:46:31 PM »
What do I need to change on my setup to get it to idle below 2000 rpms?
Tunnel ram with 2 600 holleys. It does not have 4 corner idle.
It revs crazy and seems dead on everywhere else but the idle.
If you try to bring it below 2000 rpms it just dies.
I wouldn't worry too much about it because everywhere else it's so clean and crisp but 2000 rpms is a little too much for a no wake zone and could prove to be touchy trying to load it on the trailer.

Kinda funny too, my carb didn't seem to have that adjustment after all

Changed flex plate runs smoother than ever now onto the carb

When you say 1:1 are you meaning removing the vacuum secondaries and make them open all together?

I did just see a video online that shows the idle mixture screw under the threaded rod that holds the air cleaner on. Gonna try and adjust that tomorrow

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Jet question
« on: June 02, 2014, 10:15:55 AM »
I'm getting closer on my boat but I'm needing info on the jets. We thought it was a little lean and wasn't getting enough fuel so we tried taking jets out of the 850 carb I had on there before which happen to be 80s and put them in the front carb. Ended up changing plugs and wires and it's running a little better so I figured let's put the 66s back in the carb.
Here's the problem.
We cannot adjust the idle down below about 15 rpms or it dies and it has a popping sound on the passenger side so I'm assuming it's running lean.
My idea is to put the 80s back in the front of both carbs and then I can idle it down where it needs to if it's lean. Does this sound right?
Are the jets mainly for the idle circuit?
This is on a tunnel ram with 2 600 holleys.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: too much carb ?
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:54:59 PM »
Hey guys,
Pretty much what I'm asking is I've got over a grand tied up in the carbs , tunnel ram, scoop, ect. I don't really want to set it on the shelf and wait until I have to do a complete rebuild on the motor to use it. Are there any mods besides dumping several thousand dollars into it to make it run with the dual 600 carbs? I know I can build a motor by throwing the whole wallet at it but it's summer time now.
Is there a bigger cam I can do to make it work?
Sorry for all the questions that may or not make sense but I own a carpet cleaning company. If you've got questions about any of that I've got plenty of answers but motors I'm learning as I go and in turn it's costing me a small fortune.
I'm still trying to find where my miss or vibration is coming from but if I have to go into the motor and I'm torn down to the point I can and should make any changes,  I'd like to know what changes I need to make.
I hope this makes sense. ..

what changes would be required to run the tunnel ram setup and not worry about being too much. I bought all this stuff new including the sccop for it so id like to run it and will do so at first, but if it is too much for it what would i need to chamge to make it really work right? Im sure a bigger cam verses the 270 and roller rocker arms.
Let me know, I dont exactly want to put in a large stroker kit but let me know.

Maybe a loose connection or bad ignition system? It's all new but that doesn't always mean it's not broken.

Well I will look again but we just had the motor out to do the pump and would thing it would have been laying somewhere in the bottom. I have not changed the flexplate. I also just picked up a spark tester so I can test and make sure that it's getting a strong spark on everyone of the plugs. I have noticed from time to time I would look at the tach and it would be reading about 1/2 the rpms that it should and kinda bouncing around

So if its externally balanced in the front , they are always externally balanced on the flexplate?

It's a 79 up but I'd have to search my posts for where I posted the numbers on the block to be certain.
I don't see any weights on the flywheel but it is externally balanced on the crank in the front.

Yes its unhooked and that's what I thought it was so i rebuilt the pump with the master rebuild kit since i sucked gravel into the pump but it was all fine but rebuilt it anyway to be sure.
Its completely disconnected from the coupler now and is still there.

160 psi on all cylinders and the top end is all good.

Dampner has not spun because t.d.c. still lines up perfectly.

Somethings making it dance around........... My cam is not that freakin big...

The intake had been leaking water into the intake ports being it had a rusted looking trail going into a few cylinders so im assuming it might have drawn in enough to cause a problem when it tried to compress. However it did not stall the motor or make any obvious signs of it, being as the higher the rpms  the more  water pump the pump moves it would have let the most water in at max rpms it might not have shown as much as if it were at idle taking that much in.
Hoping for as a last ditch effort to replace a few plug wires but thats highly unlikely since they are new with very little run time.

Im about to tear the motor down since it has a bad vibration in it just all of a sudden. If my crank has gotten damaged i was wondering that if I do end up having to change the crankshaft, Is there a different one I can put in like a small stroker type crank without having to change the rods and larger pistons?

I have 2 600 holleys on top of a weind tunnel ram intake. Its on basically a stock motor with a 270h cam. In the jet boat world it seems not nessesarily to big but in the car world it would be too much. Any opinions? It does have basset headers with no mufflers to help flow on the other end.

I currently have other problems with the motor since it has a bad vibration in it but im hoping its not a bent rod or the crankshaft messed up and if so i may go ahead and build it but im hoping not to have to. Gonna change the plug wires tommorow and hope for the best but i think its deeper than that. I want to run the twin carbs with the intake that ive invested in but I just dont know if it will be too much for it.

Probably gonna try it anyway but just asking for opinions on whether it will work.
Thanks

Also i'm curious if something is wrong with the crank, can i put a small stroker type crankshaft in it and leave everything else the same and reap any benefit without having to put a  full "stroker kit" in it .
