If you look at the threads on the inside of the nut, the old nut had flattened threads. That particular deal needs to be installed to the other end. Pull the cable nut off and the tube out and thread the new nut all the way on. I hope I am not steering you in the wrong direction, but there is no way it will take you more than 30 minutes to remove it and try it the other way...
I have the absolute most difficult time in the world believing it wont work. The cable nut is the same exact threads as the tube... As is the Berkeley nut.
If I am wrong, I totally apologize... Did the old nut come off of that side, or did it split off?.

ill give that a shot first thing tomorrow morning. And the old be was jb welded together and some how put on so as soon as went to take it off it broke in half. But looking at the threads look the same to me also I just never though to try it the other way.
