I have a 2005 Ford F250 Powerstroke 6.0L, I love it, My freind has a new F350 and he is not able to get more than 14 MPG out of it, while I can consistantly get 22+ from my '05 providing I don't drive faster than 70 MPH,

I'd kill for 14MPG out of my 2008 F350 TD CC Dually.  I traded in my 2003 (same configuration) and was told by the Ford dealer to expect better mileage from the new motor.  After 14k miles I am averaging 7.9MPG (70% city/30% fwy) which is just over half what I was getting from the 2003.  Great truck other than that.  ::)

Thanks, I'll be putting my engine's existing 6-71 package and Enderle hat in the classifieds this weekend.  I gave the other PFM kit to my sons for their boat this past fall.  Both Spectra's will be twin turbo this springtime  ;D  Pic of blower attached.

Thanks, had a nasty feeling that this was going to be the answer.

Since the kids have dragged their feet so much getting their boat done by the end of summer (and it's still not ready  :banghead:), I'll just mandate they save up a bit more and convert the mount system over  during the winter months.

What can be considered the limit of safe horsepower with a three point set-up?  At what point should an aluminum rail and backing plate (on each stringer) be added to the four point system?

Thanks, Mark

IMHO you're high.  I paid $1200.00 for mine 2-3 months ago.  No carb or cam, but I did get both the draw through and blow through intercooled bonnets.  I lost out on another one when I missed (forgot   ) the bid deadline on ebay.  It went off around $850 as I remember.

I'm still looking for another kit.

Nearly 70% of our sales are to Europe and Asia.  The weak dollar is helping us continue growth (>25% this year) while increasing prices (and profits) against our European competitors who are dying right now.  Our direct customers and vendors are seeing the same growth as we are.  It helps to have an end clientele that is pretty much immune to "normal" economic issues.

Our biggest problem in continuing growth is hiring.  I ran an add in the OC Register this week and haven't had a single call or resume submitted yet.  Hopefully I'll get a response from the weekend editions.  Does anyone even read the paper anymore, or is Monster . com and the like where most are at?

BTW, if you're a BSEE or BSETE and looking around please PM me.

Regards, Mark

Vacuum secondary or double pumper?

I've got a vacuum sec 750 (3310-3) that was rebuilt many moons ago then set on the shelf.

I'd consider it a good core and nothing more.  I may have the makings of a gasket set somewhere, I'll have to scrounge around if you're interested.  I can take pics and email, just send me your e-address in a PM.

$75.00

From inside your graphics viewer program do a "Save As" of the picture but specify "jpg" as the file type.  You should also have the option of lowering picture quality to reduce the file size.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Measuring for new pushrods?
« on: August 20, 2008, 09:39:03 AM »
Thanks for the info.

My problem is that I'm using stamped steel long slot rockers, not rollers like in the described procedure.  The stamped steel rockers have a slightly curved contact face that seems to "slop" across the valve stem surface rather than rolling in an easily seen pattern.

Sorry about the confusion over the added length.  Force of habit to never leave a leading decimal point on a dimension.  A drafting teacher 35 years ago is to blame for this  :)

Thanks, Mark

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Measuring for new pushrods?
« on: August 20, 2008, 06:57:29 AM »
The new Dart heads require pushrods that are 0.20-0.25" longer than stock, they recommend measuring for an exact fit -- but fail to mention how to do this.

The motor is a 4 bolt Mark 4 BBC and I'm using around a 0.55" lift hydraulic cam and long slot stamped rocker arms.  Is there a normalized height or angle you set the rockers to so the pushrod length can be determined?

Thanks, Mark

The Summit/Dart Iron Eagle is http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D152125&N=700+4294908216+4294840133+4294889122+400304+4294925232+4294838998+115&autoview=sku

They've gone up $60/ea since I bought mine but still a very good deal for what you get.  They say Summit on the outside but Dart Iron Eagle on the inside.

For this engine we basically followed one of the car magazine builds.  Pretty mild combination that netted (assuming you believe what's published) around 539hp at 5600 RPM.  This is with 8.5:1 flat tops and a fairly modest hydraulic cam.  Sounded nearly perfect for a boat motor.  Only change I made was in the cam, picked one with a 112* LSA instead of the magazines 110*.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: IMRON paint by DuPont.
« on: August 15, 2008, 06:18:44 PM »
Other LP (Linear Polyurethane) paints you can get locally are Awl Grip (Lewellen Supply in Long Beach) and Sterling (Detco in Westminster, CA).  Both give you the same results (better actually) than Imron while being more user friendly.  Either can be sprayed or applied with a roller/brush combo.  Same precautions when applying as you used with Imron

The machine shop I use advised me to give the '049 oval ports that came on the motor away and buy the plain-wrap Dart Iron Eagles from Summit.  They were under $1200 for the pair and he said I'd have more in the old heads by the time I was done -- and they still wouldn't come close in performance.  The heads came with new stainless valves and CompCams springs, retainers, keepers, rocker studs and guide plates.  The exhaust port is raised .40" for better flow.  The only difference is that the cast Dart logo is machined away and in it's place it's engraved "Summit".

Before going to ebay I thought I'd try here.  Looking for an 850 Holley DP, any condition is fine from "ready to run" to "crusty core" .

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Re: Free BBC Moroso valve covers
« on: August 14, 2008, 02:21:47 PM »
Hey Mark got any pix of those Spectras?

I'll try and take some pics of both this weekend.  The new motor should be in the kids 19' by then.  It was a real sh_thole of a boat when we brought it home, the back half was actually inside a compost heap when we found it.   A real "treasure".

Both boats will be pressure fed this winter.  Mine (20') will get the blower and EFI back and I'm giving the boys my twin turbo PFM for their boat.  They wanted the 6-71 but I'm afraid that the water cops would tag them instantly with Bassets and a blower.

It turned out to be a bad line bore from the machine shop, 0.0015 undersized.  Hopefully no more problems from here on   :-\.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

V-Drives / Re: so how many SCJBers have actually driven a V-drive???
« on: July 30, 2008, 12:14:08 PM »
Previous boat was a 21' Campbell cruiser, V-drive, 72C B-W Velvet Drive, 427 BBC.  Pretty much restricted to big lake boating.  It was faster with less horsepower than now, but we're happier with safety aspects of the jet with younger kids around.

Our Spectra 20 has one around 7' forward of the transom.  We have owned/used the boat for 20 years, and bought it from the original owner who was an employee of Spectra back in the early to mid 70's.
