How you doing boys!

I've always worked on all my own stuff but I have zero knowledge or experience when it comes to big block chevy's and jet boats in general. I've been reading like crazy on here but I'd love a recommendation on a good book that will really give me a good understanding on both big block chevy's and jets in general.

Does anyone know of a good book that they've read or that's been written by a reputable author?

I've got big plans for my boat but I really feel I need a good understanding of the basics first.

Hey guys and gals, the wife and I are trying to make the trip this weekend, just curious about some of the details.

Where is everyone launching and is there a meet up spot?

I think we'll be heading out Friday afternoon, staying at one of the hotels in town, spending the day on the water with you guys Saturday and unfortunately heading for home Saturday evening (we have a prior engagement on Sunday).

Are you thinking that for your Hallett?

Yeah man, I think I can make it work. Probably run two front seats with a removable bench. No floor, all open stringers.

If my memory serves me right, it's 21' max. Any ci, any induction, any fuel, kill switch, 80.9 mph MAX, verified at the out ramp by officials via hand held/ or other type gps.
Bolting the seat down may be the only issue for boats like ours.
That's assuming the seat mounting rule carried over to RR/NJ.

So I believe I saw in earlier threads that you've raced in that class. I'm assuming that you enjoyed it but what are some other details you can share with us who haven't raced before? What boat were you running and how'd you do?

That's really cool man. The only bummer was not getting to see any jet boats but I'm sure all the owners/drivers were a lot more bummed than the rest of us. So much time and money just for their weekends to be cut short.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and I see why you make the trip down every year.

First time I have been conscious enough to post...

Had an awesome weekend. The drive home was brutal, big rig burned to the ground in Grapevine and that made it a 9 hour trek... Made it down there in 5 1/2 hours... 

It was great to see the new and old faces.  Some great racing action...

Huge thank you to slideartist for the opportunity to help out with the GN3. We have to do that again...... If any of you out there get the opportunity to get involved in a race boat, don't hesitate. It is a blast.

Sux about Brown Sugar and her issues with the starter, but she has had her 15 minutes. 

Already making plans for next year.

I wish I wasn't so shy, I was there on Sunday and had a great time but I wish I would have introduced myself to more people. I enjoy reading yours and many others posts here on the forum, it'd be great to put a face to more names.

Anyways, it was my first time ever attending a circle boat race and I'm hooked. My wife loved it as well. We spent a lot of time in the beer garden watching the races. My favorite race was the GN final where my wife and I walked down and stood right up against the fence for the beach start where I believe 7 or 8 of the 9 boats got a great start giving off what felt like the concussion wave from a bomb going off, it was a great experience and a great race as well.

I'd love to get involved with a race team but I've completely changed my plans for my Mini Cruiser. It's going to end up a little more bare bones and have all the necessary safety precautions so I'll have the option to race it in the nostalgia jet class hopefully. I'm sure it does it to everyone but one day at the races gave me the bug to race. I'm excited to spectate for the time being but hopefully I'll be able to get involved and hopefully race eventually.

That's a bummer man, it sucks when there's instability with your job. This might not help at all but I'll tell you a little story about a different type of situation that I experienced, though equally uncomfortable.

This happened about 5 years ago now, my dad ran the electrical division for a general contractor that my brother and I also worked for. My dad and the owner started butting heads and my dad ended up getting fired. Obviously I'm going to be loyal to my dad but he gave me the good advice not to worry about him and to keep my job because I was about to get married and I needed to support my new wife. The owner of the company called my brother and I into a meeting at the end of the day that my dad had been fired. I wasn't sure how to handle it but I decided to approached the meeting with an open mind and with zero attitude whatsoever. We had already heard my dads side of the story and the owner gave us his side (both had valid issues with the other). He told us he'd like us to stay on but would understand if it was uncomfortable. Thankfully my dad had given us the freedom to make our own decisions and we both stayed on (though my brother moved to Montana a couple weeks later). The owner was impressed with my maturity in the situation and promoted me to my dads old position. Here's where this proved to be a key decision in my life. A couple years later, the owner decided to shut down his company leaving a vacuum to be filled. I activated my license and started my company. All the clients and contractors that we worked for knew the situation and how I had handled it and I'm very grateful that they embraced me when I started my company. I'm very fortunate that it played out like it did but since that situation I've always done my best not to burn bridges. I typically avoid working with clients and contractors who I feel conduct themselves in an unethical manner though I try to avoid blowups and I like to maintain good relationships with all my contacts.

They may or may not have a valid reason for their actions but if you do end up leaving then at least a good reference will make it worth handling yourself with composure and maturity, you never know what it may lead to.

Hard workers with integrity are in short supply in this day in age and there will always be someone else to snatch you up, you just have to let them find you. Good luck with the whole situation.

You're setting the bar high for yourself, the paint job on the boat is gonna have to be something special to take the attention away from the trailer!

I'm a small electrical contractor, 4 employees. Tried hiring guys with experience. It never worked. They never knew as much as they said they knew or their work ethic was shit or I'd constantly have to fight with them to get them to do things the way I want them done.

My best experience has been finding someone with a good work ethic, eager to learn and equally important to me, I want them to be somehow connected to one of my friends or family. When they know that their dad, mom, brother, uncle or whoever is going to kick their ass if they screw me over, it keeps them honest and loyal.

Everyones business is different but this works for me. I know you can't always wait to train someone new when times get busy but that's what long days and long weeks are for.
