Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Help: Pulling BBF
« on: May 09, 2012, 10:52:32 AM »
Okay,
I have everything off and ready to pull the engine tonight.

1.  The reason I am pulling it is it leaks fresh clean oil just when sitting.  It has leaked it all the way down to where nothing shows on the dip stick.  Any idea what can cause this?

2.  I am changing the freeze plugs.  What is the best way to flush the silt/junk out?

3.  I am going to change the U-joint as well.  How do I find the right part # for the U-joint?

4.  Is there anything else that I should do while I have the engine out?

As always, thanks for the help.

Trailers / Trailer Hub Assembly
« on: May 01, 2012, 11:17:27 AM »
I want to change all four hub assemblies on my trailer.  They don't have brakes so can I just buy four new hubs and put them on?  Also, how do I tell the size and length of the assembly I need:  1", 1 1/4", 1 3/8" etc...?

Any recommendations on brands?

ka0tyk,
Thanks.  Is there anything I need to disconnect at the drive/pump connection?  I think this is pretty straight forward.  I just want to fix the oil leak and freeze plugs with out messing anything up or having to do major adjustments after reinstall.

Ok. Instead of selling I am now in the keep it and work on it mode.  :screwy:  I need to pull my 460 and fix an oil leak and replace the freeze plugs.  I don't know what the oil leak is yet so that is why I am pulling it.  I have an engine hoist and stand but have a few questions on pulling the engine:

20' Nordic Viking Day Cruiser
Ford 460 with snails
Dominator pump

1.  What has to be disonnected at the pump/connections to the engine?
2.  Anything else other than disconnecting the mounts for the engine?
3.  Anyone have a DYI guide with pics?
4.  Is there anything else I should replace after pulling the engine?  Flush, etc...?

I really appreciate all of the help and expertise on this site!  Any help with this will be greatly appreciated as well.

Just a few more pics.  The bars going port to starboard are removable to keep the boat cover up.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Custom SP wire question
« on: June 06, 2009, 07:48:03 AM »
Thanks to earlier help, I am installing Accel SP wires... What I need to know is, do I strip just the outside wire (yellow/white) or do I strip the black conductor wire as well? ??? Unfortunately, I did the second and it has kept me up thinking all night.  :banghead:  If I did, will it still work or is this a $$$ lesson??

BTW, I really appreciate the all of the knowledge and experience on this page and for helping a newb like me.

Thanks for all the info/help... picked up a set of yellow accel wires on Sat while driving to LA.  Get the pertronix on Tuesday and then install everything.  Gonna do an El Cap run on Saturday to make sure everything is good for Parker on the 12th....

41
Thanks again.... Trying to get everything up and running smoothly for Parker on Father's Day....

42
Thanks... I will get some this weekend... do you have to have a special crimping tool for the wires???

Any recommendation on the plug gap?

I am trying to find a plug wire set for a BBF with a Prestolite Dizzy.  Right now, it has motorcraft wires on it but one is cracked and they haven't been replaced in a long while.  Funds are an issue, so I'm looking for a decent set for a decent price...  Specific part number would help as well...  recommendations???

I am also putting in a Pertronix elect conversion.  Do I need to change the plug gap?  Learning as I go...
