Alright Maddog my turn to chime in.. ;D...I'm running my basset valve with the spring and ball in it and I also run a header valve up at the seat... I only have one dump line on mine... I turn on my valve at about 2000 rpm to medium... I do not run it on high and have plenty of steam coming out of my headers.. They are definetly hot but not hot enough to blue them... Not sure if that helps or not.. If you have a good head of steam coming out of your headers with 2 dump lines you will be fine... Be very careful of closing any water valves on your dump lines as you can blow head gaskets that way.... Good Luck ::)

Well here goes.. ;D On my old Hawiian with a big cheby with some work done and a new A impeller in the pump it would turn 5800 on top... Now on my Nordic I'm runnin' a big blue oval.. Not sure of the insides but it does have roller rockers and a tunnel ram witha Holley 850 DP and a mild cam... Don't know what's in the pump but it will turn 4600-4700 at approx. 4500 ft above sea level.. So just a little food for thought I think 4300 does sound a little low.. so after typing all this I forgot where I was headed..lol..  :screwy:oh well good luck

Well if it lights you should be good... Are you runnig a Aux. soloniod like the diagram shows?? If so then it has to be grounded to complete the circiut...

What type of exhaust do you have?? Milkshaked my oil real bad last fall... My first thought was head gasket... :mad:  Ended up being the spring in my Basset t-valve was bad... First thing you should do is run a compression test... Depending on how old the motor is it's not uncommon to see a variation of 10 to 15 pounds between all 8 cylinders. Now if you have one or two that are way low then the possibility of a head gasket is real... Good luck.. Andrew

Well boys it's all swell and I appreciate the info from all... I ordered a Rex valve and will install that... If I don't use a basset valve am I right in assuming I won't need  to use my gate valve or can keep it on and just open it all the way.. Am I thinking correct here... I don't have to use it to correct line pressure at all do I....
And SLCKREG I run out at willard,Pineview, BearLake.. Would really like to try Echo this year but not sure how the cops are on noise up there..

ote]  Ok so They are Basset OT's.. my first experience with them... The dumb A## that had it before filed in a bunch of slots in the valve so that a little water could bypass the ball at idle... I'm thinking of going to a manual valve and still keeping the basset valve so I have all the say on water control... And wear in Utah do you go play...

Ok so here is my issue.. The fellow i bought my Nordie from "modified" the Basset T-Valve so there would be just enough water going through at idle to cause a slight steaming effect in order to keep the headers cooler... I Idle it more and tend to get just a bit of water in tne oil than I would prefer  :mad:... So My question is I'm going to redo the system by either buying a new T-valve or going with a manual control from Rex Marine.. I have no experience with these manual dealios.. So what do some of you guys prefer and can I run just the manual control without a T-valve or do I need both... Thx Guys

Well thx for the input especially on the insert thing.. I had thru hull's with logs on my 79' Hawiaan.. The sound was great and she would turn 5800 rpm on a big chevy.. had to sell her thou. Always wanted OT's and said if I bought another one.. Well guess I wait for the ice to finish melting and I'll go deal with johnny law...lol...

Ok so here goes guys.. My first post and sorry for no pics yet.. New computer and haven't got to it yet... I have basset headers and was wondering what decibel reading I would be looking at... My state has a noise limit of 90 DBs at idle... Think I'll fail and if so I would like some thoughts..
