Whats Cookin? / My New Steak Marinade
« on: July 03, 2011, 03:40:54 PM »
I tried this with a couple of New York steaks from costco and it turned out real good!

I did a little dry rub with some BBQ seasonings, chopped up some fresh garlic, and marinaded for a 24hrs with 1/2 cup of red wine (merlot), 1/2 cup of Crown Royal.
Used hickory wood chips and cooked over indirect heat. Medium-rare. Came out pretty damn good!!

SoCal Lakes / Re: Lake Piru ?

It is a nice lake... if ya catch it on the right day.
The water gets chopped up pretty bad most of the time if there's alot of boats or if the wind picks up.
If you come out, be sure there is NO water in your boat upon inspection at the front gate.

Then it went out for paint (yes, paint...not gell). I decided to go with all white. I really like that clean look.
The painter didn't mask off the inside of the boat. So when I picked up the boat I was totally pissed to see all the overspray ALL OVER all the work I just paid John to do for me. He said he would fix it but I was totally over dealing with this guy and thought what the hell I'll take care of it myself...and thats where I'm at people. I'm sanding and sanding and sanding...taking care of the overspray and smoothing out all the runs (from flowcoat) and fiberglass matting. I want it to look smooth as glass when I spray it. I may even change up the color to dark grey w/black carpet. I plan on spraying it this weekend if the weather hold up.
Prep for paint:

Fresh white paint:

Overspray MESS!

Smoothing everything out (prep for new flow coat)

Flow Coat: New bulkhead (No more ski locker or subfloor!) After I got the boat back from John, with the help of Nelson109 we were able to weigh it and check for straightness.
Bare hull+intake = 525lbs. I'd say its a solid medium lay up lake boat.

The weigh in:

Bottom straight!

Update: Well as you'll see I'm not even close to being back on the water!
My job got cancelled tonight and I have plenty of time to get my thread chippered up finally!
Quick recap: After I cut out the ski locker, front bulkhead, sub-floor, and battery tray. I brought the boat to John Miller.
He cut out the rotted stringer and glassed in new passenger side stringer, made new front bulkhead, side gunnel supports, and patched up numerous other misc. items.
He also flow coated everything black. Thanks to John Miller for making my boat structual sound again!
Stringer replacement:

Filled gas tank holes too

Even if I had a red stickered bike, I would still ride anytime of the year. That stuff has never bothered me and where I ride I hardly ever see anybody.

Breaking a law every now and then keeps me very much sane!
