I changed my water supply to a Jabsco water puppy,  just the right water pressure and gpm on my 472 BBF no more milkshake. This is on a v drive. Of course you need to run a alternator

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Carb hesitation
« on: May 31, 2013, 11:51:08 PM »
Before you change everything in or on the carb be sure you have the correct jets and pv in it according to their specs.. Also holley jets are all not the sizes they represent, they have a correct jet size on their site.

Also check to see if the air bleeds are clear and maybe a vacuum leak.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Motor oil to use (non roller)
« on: May 21, 2013, 12:22:47 AM »
I run Shell Rotella 15-40 in my 472 Ford both ways roller, non roller. It's made to run in diesel and gas engines. My opinion nothing runs more severe than a over the road or equipment engines. They run very close tolerances, tremendous compression causing extreme heat etc If you have broken in the engine properly  with break in additives Rotella will be fine. If there are fuel, water, excessive heat, over timing etc contaminates will wash, burn up the oil no matter which one is used. My opinion

Random Boat Parts For Sale / Re: OT pipes
« on: May 17, 2013, 12:21:36 AM »
Looking at the pictures, measure the bottom of the flange(part that bolts to the manifold) to the bottom of the pipe that will give you the rise or the height of the pipes. Need this measurement to see whether they will clear the rear deck. I need at least 15 inches. Also whether the pipes are rusted out at the flange. Thanks

What is the rise, from the bottom of the flange to the bottom of the pipe. They came in 13,15,18,21 inches If they are 15 or 18 I would be interested.

The fuel bowl will never show full, however the bubbles indicate either air or the lack of fuel. I use a elecrtic pump by the tank and a mechanical at the engine. This stops the drain back of fuel and keeps the fuel prime constant. Also be sure your pumps are the right GPM . Your falling on its face indicates a lean fuel situation and also could be too slow of advance in the distrubutor. Check the total advanve the intial will be what it is, that is what is more important One thing at a time, not a bunch of things you will never know what the fix is that way. Good luck.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: ford 460 wont idle
« on: April 25, 2013, 12:22:25 AM »
What Carb is it? Check the air bleed jets on the top, blow them out to be sure they are clear. Also check to see if the transfer slots are set properely. If you just got this boat sounds like someone has screwed the carb up. If you are a novice I would recomend you let someone help you , sounds like a lean condition or as suggested open vaccum ports somewhere.

Bubbles indicate a sucking air on the suction side of the fuel system, could just be a pin hole or any place it can get air instead of fuel.

We recently adopted a female Lab Pit mix from the local shelter here. It was her last day on earth when we got her. She is a wonderful loving animal and love her unconditionally.

CP Performance finally has designed a great thermostadt setup about $ 250.00 for a Ford 460. I bought one for mine and keeps temps perfect. No more restricting water its full flow just what the engine and if you have water cooled manifolds need. Now I can get a good plug read and my block is happy, WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

Another good reason to have a oil acummulator of some sort. Could have helped also good better oil knowledge.

Sounds like water in the manifold if these are water manifolds doesn't take much to steam.
