Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: What type of oil cooler to run?
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:23:37 AM »
What temp is too much when it comes to oil then?  I will run a gauge to check it out, but the only reason I was thinking down the lines of a cooler is because my engine runs at 150* all day.  I have a thermostat in it and it works great.   I have notice steam coming out of my breathers before and that is what is making me assume that my oil is hot...
But now that I think about it... Oil smokes and water steams...  I think I may be just too paranoid right now with the motor.   :-\

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / What type of oil cooler to run?
« on: August 07, 2010, 10:40:58 AM »
I need to put a cooler on my bbc and would like opinions on the different type of coolers available.  I have seen the ones that are for sale by CP that require water to run thru them and then also there is a cooler at the local marine shop, the "fin" style.  And by fin, I mean a long tube with fins running down it length wise to distribute heat.
Motor that its going on... Desent built 454 without forced induction.   I have heard that the "fin" style would be fine for a naturally aspirated motor but just want to make sure before I spend the money...

I run with the diverter all the way up......about a 1 foot rooster (like my bowrider, no diverter)

Have no clue on the intake fins, prev. owner said gs marine added the hardware, idk.
Do I need better pics?

thanks
Daniel

Only 1 foot of roost with the diverter sounds weird to me.  I have a JC pump with a hydro diverter on it and it throws a decent roost.  You can adjust the the hem joint that attaches to the actual nozzle so that it will let you get my roost on it.  Atleast on mine it does....  Doens't have much to do with your problem, just the 1 foot caught my eye.

there haveing dui check point for everone  going to the ramp
Now where is the fun in that...  While I agree that you shouldn't drive your boat drunk, I don't believe in sitting on the ramp and grabbing people when they get done.

Boats For Sale / Re: Your Opinion?

By the looks of the pics and everything that you have said, I believe if you waived 3,500 in his face... He would take it.  I don't know much about boats to be a judge of what it is worth but I would check to see if he is lien selling it.   The fact that he dropped the price that much and is willing to take 2grand less than what he asked for orginally just means that he is someone who is happy to get money for it.  Also, all the picutres look like its at some sort of shop, that is what makes me think about the lien sale.  Just my .02

Jet Pumps / Re: Good place in socal to rebuild jet pump
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:19:05 AM »
Don't know your budget but if you are sure you need a new impellor then your blueprint job from before is toast.  It's like replacing a crank from out of a box in a blueprinted motor, it's not blueprinted anymore.
Didn't realize that.. Thanks! I guess I will need to get all that done then.  I will give Jack a call.  Thanks again.

I am in Apple Valley If you bring some beer over we can look at the jet for a couple hours ....lol Whats a arm and a leg price ????

If I was to bring them the boat , it was going to be around 1100 and then another 325 on top of that if I needed a new impeller..  <--Which I do.

i called GS marine and they want an arm and a leg to get it done.  it's my understanding that they don't do just rebuilds.. they also do the blueprinting included with the rebuild and that's the reason it's so much.
from my understanding, the guy i bought the boat from a couple of years ago said the pump was already blueprinted so I don't need it again.  But the difference from what is said and what is actually done is still to be seen..
So i'm back in the hunt again for a shop to do it.  i am looking to bring the boat to the shop so that i can be sure it's done right, not too sure as to what i am doing when it comes to this...
thanks for the help...  (And if it's beer you need as payment.....  i got kegs for ya!!  ;D)

Jet Pumps / Re: can you start jet bout out of water?
« on: June 29, 2010, 04:57:23 AM »
I run it in my driveway before for a couple minutes with no problems, just had the hose hooked up after the pump to feed the motor.  The times that I did plan to run it for 20 mins or so... I ran a hose to the motor and then another hose to the intake of the pump.  That way you have water going into the pump also.

Top is of a class of ships that are currently in use by the US Navy, and they are jet boats.  While they can cruise at about 39 knots, my craft (though not a jet) can smoke that thing and we just barely touch the water..

Jet Pumps / Re: Name that loader....
« on: June 08, 2010, 09:08:00 AM »
To answer your question you need to supply a lot more info to get a realy good answer. Your HP, your RPM, your MPH, and some dimentions ramp widths, is the leading edges forward or aft of the mounting plate and how much, dimention above or below keel, where the're aiming ( high middle low). and most important what you use your boat for. If you like rock climbing it's not so good.  If you cruise it almost doesn't matter.  If you race it's critical.  Take those dimentions and ask Greg Schoemaker over on Performance Boat or Tom here with Jet Boat Performance.  They have sooo much experience with other people's boats they will get you in the ball game.
Thanks for that.  I will get that info as soon as I can.  Alot of it is unknown right now but i'll work on it.  Thanks again!

This is the loader that came on the boat when i bought it and I have no idea what it's about.  is it a performance or special loader?  Whatever the case is, is it a decent loader?  Also does it work with what I have...

The No Wake Zone / Re: New here with a 73 Bandito
« on: June 05, 2010, 04:01:18 AM »
From the Coast Guard Database..

"'BND' WAS BANDITO BOATS, ORANGE, CA; OOB 7/77UPDATE PER CG-5093"
--OOB meaning "Out of Business"

Now if you put BND into search field, comes up with some company out of Florida in the early 90's.  That comment was at the bottom.     Nice boat BTW..
