Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Parts list and Questions..
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:07:37 PM »
Ok.. With the help of a few people here, Im almost ready to throw the motor in! I have an Accel dizzy, but not sure what kind of coil and an ignition system out of a ford. This will work just fine for what Im doin, I was just wondering if I can use ANY coil with my Dizzy or do I need to stick to Accel? I got an older alternator, can the housing be painted? I still need a starter, scoop, PTO for the driveline, possibly an ignition box, and I think some water fittings.. I have the 2 inlet thermostat housing, but thats it. Do I need more? Anyone have any of this they wanna sell?

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Engine Paint Time
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:03:59 PM »
Well, Just ran to Napa to buy paint. They only had the orange/red as far as orange went. So blue it is! I just painted the block and heads. Bad news though, when I finished and grabbed the cap to put back on the can.. it says OLD FORD BLUE!!! So chances are, the Chevy will NEVER run, or more likely, melt the ford right off of her! Next question is.. How hot do you think boat headers than are ran with water get? They have "header" paint there thats rated at 1200 degrees, which I dont believe AT ALL. Depending how clean I can get my headers, paint might be the last choice. I dont feel like spending a bunch to get em coated this season!

Haha.. Iv learned my lesson! If it was summer time and I was stuck out of the water for this long, I wouldnt be very unhappy! This (in my head) was a weekend job! Im happy with how its turned out so far, hopefully it will make the boat look extra good and sell faster!

Finally.. More progress. Youd never imagine how hard it is to sell a boat without a trailer!  :screwy: Anyone notice anything different in the new pictures? Perhaps the big suport bracket to help hold the leaf springs in place? Now THATS factory looking!  ;D

Heres the plate I threw under the tounge to help keep everything together.

And the NEW support bar.

And again.

Threw the angle iron on to mount the bunks to.

And here she is with some paint!   Notice the unintentional "murdered" out tail lights?  :banghead:  Oh yah, and if you notice all the little spots in the paint.. thats EXACTLY what happens when it HAILS right after you finish on a mostly sunny day. I still have to throw the boat on and weld in the mounts for the floater bar, so I have to repaint the front anyway.

Hey.. So tomorrow its supposed to be nasty weather, which puts a hold on painting my trailer outdoors. I can still rattle can the block and heads in the garage though. Plan on just going to napa and getting their high temp stuff. Biggestest question is the color. I know you CANT go wrong with black, but how much fun is that? Im thinking orange or maybe orange with blue heads? What do you guys think? Dont want it to look like a circus in the back of the boat but at the same time I want it to stand out a bit. Like they say.. If its slow.. It better be shinny! Running a kinda low intake with chrome valve covers and chrome scoop. Other than that it will be mostly paint. Heres a couple pics of the boat to help me with color scheme..

Trailers / Re: Wheel Size
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:57:07 PM »
Figured out some 20s that are way cheap on CL with a 5x4 1/2 bolt pattern measured 27 inches from ground to the highest point on the tire.. They'll fit just fine. I overheard some guys today at the tire/muffler shop (getting a cat for my DIESEL to smog!!!  ) trying to get 8 ply boat trailer tires ordered and got me thinkin that auto tires might not hold up? I cant see why not though, not like weight is an issue. Anyone had problems running auto tires on there boat trailers?

Trailers / Wheel Size
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:22:52 PM »
Im going to be throwing some new wheels on my boat trailer and Im wondering how big I could go. I know tire size is going to play a big part and axle placement, but in general.. And maybe some pictures of your trailer with biggers wheels? Im thinking of going with 18s cause they seem to be everywhere for pretty cheap right now. Plus, (no offense to anyone) but I think its rediculous when boats are sitting on 24s!

I was wondering, without buying 10 different size bolts, if anyone knew what size thread and pitch bolts I needed to mount my BBC onto the engine stand? How bout a length too. Figured you guys have done it enough to know it by heart! Thanks!

I picked it up. Took a straight edge with me and it was square to the eye (and ruler). The only issue is that it had a burr where the therm. housing bolts up. Guy said they just ran a little extra RTV there. Couldnt pass it up for 40 bucks. Nothing else its a tire chaulk!
