This is the , (I'm gonna finish her one day) truck lol

Very nice, I love the stance of your truck. My grandfather just finished his 53 and I know he has a lot of parts for 48-53 so, let me know if you are looking for anything in particular and I can ask him for you. He's in Norco.

Yeah the Rangers have told me that they start to treat the lake for algae and whatnot usually mid September and it always turns the water green. This pic was last October.

Is anyone going to be in Havasu next week during the week? I will be out there with some friends and 2 or 3 boats from Monday the 14th thru Thurs the 17th. Hoping maybe some locals will be able to get out there and meet up at the sandbar or something.

Last summer, I rented a house about 1/4 mile up the from lazy harrys, I launched from there and docked the boat at the house, but you can't leave your boat docked over night unless you wanna see it sitting on the sand until about 11 the next morning. So even though it was cool being able to leave from the house, you still have to launch every day.

Lake Havasu / Re: Havasu seaweed?

I was at the mouth of the river today and like I said seaweed across the whole channel. Are you just risking it and driving right over it with your jet or is there another way around it?

We ended up driving up to Pirates cove, launched there and drove south to the sand bar then stopped at Topock 66  for dinner on the way back. Ended up being a nice ride.

Trailers / Re: Very hot brakes
« on: August 04, 2015, 08:31:34 AM »
As for the bearings, I'd recommend cleaning and inspecting them closely before repacking them.  If you find any pitting, damage or severe discoloring I'd recommend replacing them.  A bearing failure can turn catastrophic quickly, causing damage to the axle that will leave you in need of more than just a hub.

Yea, Ive had a bad experience before that's why I want to be cautious, I had a bearing come apart and I lost a wheel, its out in the desert somewhere, never found it. I had to chain the axle up and limp it home....... not fun.

On the sliding actuators you need to make sure the surge brake slider moves very freely. These have two pounds and slider pads. When they get rusty, they tend to "stick" while going downhill similar to riding the brakes on the car. We have the of these actuators on the family and I have taken all three apart and cleaned then up and lubed the snot out of them. I have also installed a smaller orifice making the brakes less sensitive.

You also may have to bleed them.

I switched to silicone brake fluid.  Just be sure to flush then really well worth denatured alcohol before you switch.

GT

I hear a lot of people say the same thing you did about the brakes sticking, I'll be checking them this weekend. Thanks GT

Look into " bearing buddies"

It has something on there that is very similar.

cool, Ill be making a trip next month to Havasu so, maybe Ill just pick up a hub and bearings and keep it in the truck as cheap insurance.

Trailers / Very hot brakes
« on: August 03, 2015, 04:38:08 PM »
So coming home from Silverwood on Saturday, I had to come down through Crestline because of the 138 being closed by the 15 because of a fire, when I got to the bottom of the hill at Waterman, my brakes smelled very burnt, and they had gotten so hot, all of my wheel bearing grease had become liquified and was dripping out. I have an Extreme trailer with the sliding tongue for the brakes and although I kept my truck in low gear and did not hit the brakes very much, I think just the weight of the boat going down hill is what caused the brakes to be applied. 3 questions........ 1. should 1 replace the brake pads even if they still have quite a bit of material left? 2. Should I replace those wheel bearings or just re-pack them? 3. What should I have done to prevent this from happening? Any help would be appreciated.
