The No Wake Zone / BOAT the meanings
« on: April 07, 2014, 07:37:18 AM »
I'm gonna have to join this pissing match. The green kona I have/had is powered by the original Hardin marine 455. When I opened it up, it still had the original cam which leads me to believe the motor was never opened up which kinda backs the guy I got it from stating so. And that thing ran great every time t took it out before I freshened it up which it probably didn't even need. My old 84 k5 blazer I bribed my brother through high school with was unmolested with the exception of a auto zone sun pro gauge trio. It leaked so bad you never had to do an oil change, add a quart every week or so and change the oil filter every 3000 miles. It never really even went into overdrive and if it did it would kick in and out of it so it was always driven with od locked out. Carb would never hold a tune and runs so rich I wouldn't be surprised if you took a match to the tail pipe it would turn into a flame thrower. Stereo worked when it wanted to and the same with the a/c, heater, all the power windows and we still can't keep rear shocks on the thing with out the studs snapping.

Yah most of this stuff is something that just needs to be taken care of with some tlc but either way I drove it on and of for two years before I gave it to him in 09 and he drives it 2-3 times a week to work and it's never broke down or given him a problem other than whats listed.

Now my dad, my brother and myself all own ford trucks as well. My dads 01 f250 with the 5.4 seized the motor just over 120k miles cruising the freeway at 60. My brothers 04 ranger same thing, seized the 3.0 v6 with 88k miles on it cruising the freeway at 70. I own a 99 f250 with the almighty 7.3 powerstroke. It lost all compression in #7 and the other 7 cylinders were all low with only 200k on the odometer only 7 months after I bought it. All three trucks were maintained, all three had been to ford for all the recalls and guess what. The ranger took a dump because of the the "cam synchronizer shaft". basically a distributor with a sensor on it opposed to a cap and wires which was replaced a few months prior to it locking up in 2013 by ford under a recall because they were failing a causing the problem. My old mans f250 lost the timing chain, which had been replaced just over a year prior when he took it in for for that recall and the infamous fire starting windshield wipe system. And my F250, it went because of the crappy air box that ford put on the truck which had been replaced 3 times by ford verified by an oasis report prior to me buying it.

I long blocked my brothers and dads trucks and both are still running strong 20 and 60 thousand miles later I'll give them that. Myself, I'm still contemplating if my trucks worth fixing 2 years later.

I will say this, I'll NEVER buy another ford product and that's because after my first oil change on my company truck which is a 2012 chevy, the "tech" double gasketed the oil filter which blew out and drained on the freeway locking the motor. The dealership drove out and picked me up 60 miles away and offered my company a brand new truck after to talking to corporate. They even had the porters help me swap all my stuff from my bins into the new truck.

I'll be a chevy guy for life.

Thanks for the offer kray but I'm probably gonna go buy one from J&M speed center in riverside.

And the universal dipstick is a last resort.

Hopefully I can get one from the shop if not I'm gonna try Ernie in highland, I know he's gotta have one.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: navigation lights...
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:10:27 AM »
My boat didn't come with lights originally and I didn't want to start drilling on it. Figured it went unmolested for the last 40 years so why start now. I'm usually on the water early and off before dark so it's never been a issue for me. I'm that guy making wake up passes at the but crack of dawn and loading the boat usually around 3-4. Makes it easier at the ramp and gives me time to clean everything and top off the tanks for the next day or gives me a head start so I don't have to deal with the rush at the ramp.

Hulls / Re: Mini Day vs. Day Cruiser
« on: March 28, 2014, 04:55:09 PM »
These are what I call day cruisers. Like glen said, anything with a little cabin under the deck i would consider a day cruiser. Mini days I would consider a more low profile 19-20 footer

Hulls / Re: Mounting bilge pump
« on: March 28, 2014, 03:12:48 PM »
I bought a piece of aluminum flat stock from Home Depot and made an L bracket. Secured one end to the lowest transom adapter bolt and the other to the bottom of the pump.

Project Boats For Sale / Re: C/L find eliminator
« on: March 27, 2014, 10:52:15 PM »
Well you should be able to find out how much is owed with a few phone calls and it might be worth it to pay on it or you buy it and strip the hull and cut it up. Weld over the vin with a few passes on the trailer and grind it smooth, rehab it and re register the trailer as a new one.

As of right now it's really only worth parts depending on how much is owed on it.
