I have a lot of polishing to do next winter, for now, it will have to do. Aluminum plate for MSD very rough fitted and sanded just enough to get the burs off.
Bought a NEW MSD blaster 2 coil - what a bummer. In addition to the big made in china sticker, the paint was already flaking off. Feels like they painted over misted oil...
Thanks to the falling US dollar, I am hoping we start having things made in america again.

because it's isolated, because it's mellow, because lot's of titties and drinkin' and wild stuff happenin', because the water's warm, because the fishin' / water skiing / beaches, etc is great.... whatever.....
Boat is CLOSE to being DONE. Like a week or so away, I *may* even be able to show it at NJBA on the 19th!

My plan is to pull the oil filter, and pump the oil out with a priming tool. I figure I have my engine pretty well sealed up, I'm going to need the disti out to add oil anyway!

My buddy took a center section in there that needed to get the throttle bushings replaced. I had all of the other parts, but I wasn't going to assemble it just give to them to disassemble. It only needed the teflon bushings replaced.
In spite of how many times I told my friend that just have them replace the throttle bushings, I'll do the rest, they convinced him the carb was junk becuase it was missing too many parts to make work. They graciously kept that junk carb, and I was never able to get it back in spite of my best efforts.
Another sotry is my friend bought one of thier Holley rebuilt carbs for his 302. Well, he had to sue them after the carb leaked and caught the car on fire, totalling it.
I refuse to deal at all with them.

This is the only pic that has the same underslung diverter I have. Seeing how I have to start drilling holes in the transom adapter, I'd really like to see underneith that swim step and see how the cables are routed.

If my wrecked trailer hadn't been towed off 3 weeks ago from the marine shop, I would have given it to you :-)
(they stuck it on the street, and left it there for a week- local PD towed it off and tried to send me a big bill for towing and storage. This trailer was completely trashed with the only thing even semi good were the tires so I "sold" it. )

« on: April 07, 2008, 08:27:11 PM »can anyone help me...sooo i bought my little 21 footer last year...found out the motor was bad...starter bolt broke off in the block and other nonsense that the guy hustled me into...needless to say i rebuilt my motor .30 over 454 blah blah holley 750 curled water injected logs and im not sure on the pump except its a berkley... anyway i took my boat out yesterday and the darn thing wont rev over 3k when its in the water...put it on the trailer it reved to ablmost 5400 i am at a loss as to what to do i assume my timing may be off or my jet is phucked any info would be super as im about ready to hang a 300 merc off the back
What impellor? If its an A2-4, you may not be making enough HP to turn it, esp if you put a higher duration cam in it (IE the engine starts making power at 3500 - but at 3K the lines cross and it can't spin it any faster). What MPH are you running at 3K? Did it rev higher before you rebuilt it?

I almost *have* to do that - they didn't have any autometer marine vaccum gauges - but they did have Vac/boost so that's what I got :-)

The pressure regulation in a car is done by the radiator cap, and those typically go to 25lbs max, with 15-17 being the norm. However, maybe it's regulated to that due to the hoses, radiator, pump, or something other than the block sealing (which is the only thing we are dealing with in a jet boat without a water pump). I don't know. Cylinder pressures are 10X+ what the radiator cap would regulate it to, so maybe it isn't an issue. It would be good to know.

Elwood, you probably have more experiance than I do with water pressure, but I would be worried that 75-100 lbs is too much. Cylinder pressures reach far more than that, so maybe it's OK, but I always assumed 30 lbs was a safe maximum to avoid blowing out a head gasket.
I know if I find out I can safely do 40 + lbs I will be really happy, becuase I have a 40 psi preset water regulator so it is a simple plumbing job.

If you are sucking just a little water in, esp if the rings are worn, the motor may not hydrolock. It will only do that if there is more uncompressible liquid than air. You also don't know how long it took for the oil to get that way - it may have been an entire season or two.

Maybe there is a vaccum leak at the manifold or carb, that could be the lean issue. Also, if he gooped RTV around the water passages, debris could be clogging the colling.

Reworked the impellor, polished the bowl and tunnel ram, reinstalled the engine, painted the swimstep Blue with marine polyeurathane.
Next week. Finish wiring, install gauges and interior.

Being that I do the quick racing thing with my buddies, the rough water sometimes that we hit, and the yahoos on the river that I sometimes encounter, I like the idea that I can keep BOTH hands on the steering wheelMark
It was a bundled deal from place, so I couldn't tell you exactly how much for the switch itself.

I got mine at Place. Though now I'm debating if I am going to mount it on the wheel. I'm thinking the dash would be better.
