i put 1/2 gal of acetone (prolly NOT a good idea with fiberglass tanks, but i bet theres a similar fiberglass friendly solvent, above suggested some diesel which i hear works good as a detergent) in my alum tanks and drove around town for 15 minutes or so.  they were spotless afterwards. also the local marina here in long beach has a few tank cleaning services.  i dunno what they'd charge for a professional scrub.

KA how much Italian dressing you put in the water ??? Does that really do a lot for the taste ??? Never heard of that one.. always do the boil and barby tho

decent amount.  maybe 1/4 cup or so.  and yeah it makes a big difference.  like the wishbone italian dressing has a bunch of chunk tidbits that make their way inbetween the leaves and adds flavor.  also ive found that trimming em up helps a lot as well.

some food scissors will make this easy.

When you grill them do you peel them or just cut em in half?

very sharp knife and cut em in half.

I'd just clamp em in a vise, drill them out with a good hand drill (or drill press if you have access to one) as vertical as possible and hand tap 'em.........The taper and thread tape on your AN/NPT fitting is what seals it, so it dont need to be anywhere near to close to CNC accurate......But I'm a cheap bastard......... ;)

If you dont have the proper 1/2"  NPT tap or drill, well, then $26 becomes pretty cheap really........

Ray

yeah thats the deal.  by the time i buy the tools i couldve just bought em new.  figure it someone here had a drill and tap id kick em a few.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: oil pan install
« on: April 17, 2011, 01:47:48 PM »
Is the engine on a stand?  Tell me exactly what you are doing.  Did you just pull the engine to swap pans, or is it a fresh rebuild or what?

Anything you do with the oil pump should be done carefully, you don't want something coming apart causing the engine to lose oil pressure.

Mine had a tack weld on it as well.

i went with 4" exhaust simply because theres a bunch of 4" silencers around.  not sure of your setup but my dad had a set of these on his blown 496 with imco exhaust and it made a huge difference in his.  I'll be picking up a set soon to cruise around the harbor in.

all u need to do is drill a little hole in the bottom of your exhaust tube for a small bolt/nut to hold them in place, and then slide them in/out.
