If a 460 CI: 5,000 (RPM) * 460 (CI) / 3456 = 655.5 CFM * 1.15 multiplier (For jet boats) = 756.33 CFM

If a 540 CI: 5,000 * 540 / 3456 = 781.25 * 1.15 = 898 CFM

I put a marine Holley 850 with mech secondaries on the motor and the darn thing woke up like a madman!! With that said, I tend to believe that my motor may indeed be a 540 CI.

how do you come up with the 1.15 VE multiplier?  just curious.

any boat is worth redoing the floor, its just something that wears out over time.  any anyone can redo their own floor if they can operate some simple tools like a saw and a paintbrush and mix up some resin and mat to glass it in.  its just all labor, its not rocket science.

as far as that other stuff thats up to you and your wallet.

yeah its just an old edelbrock torker 2 intake.  im gonna look and make sure the ports are rectangle.  im just wondering if the time/effort into having an intake polished is worth it when im finding em for a couple hundred bucks on ebay/cl/swapmeets.  especially right now.  people are unloading extra toys likec crazy.  what i got right now works, its just not as pretty as i would hope.  looking thru some of the other peoples pix i just start drooling and get a case of the "i want that's"

just launch it off to the side of the ramp and let it sit on the trailer idling while you check EVERYTHING for leaks.  safety first, make sure your bilge pump works before you take off.  bring someone with you so you can poke around back there while they stay on plane. 

make yourself a toolkit while u have time.  go around and take note of what sockets it takes for clamps, screwdrivers, spare fuses, etc.  keep it small and simple.

loads of people on another forum were telling me the 850 on a relatively stock 454 right now is a bit overkill and id have to jet it down and the cfm would be wrong. 

i read it was: max rpms x ci / 3456 would give u the cfm. 

so 5500 * 454 / 3456 = 722 cfm.  granted i prolly wont ever see 5500 rpms with my panther and stock'ish motor (it would probably explode) lets go with 5k rpms... that puts me at 650 cfm. 

we'll see how it does.  worst case im out 150.

not like msd's products are much better.  they're notorious for dying for various reasons... vibration, heat, moisture.  i see some people mount theirs near the back and i just cringe.  my last mustang i had gone thru 3 6a's before mounting it inside the car under my seat to the carpet.  so no heat no vibrations no moisture.  it lasted 6 months before it died as well.  and a dead ignition = you're going nowhere.  if yer not lookin for a racer just stick to the HEI. bulletproof and easy to fix.

sewing is like an art.  sure anyone can run materials thru a machine and get em to stick together but doing it straight with a giant seat and then going into a curve while having 2 or more pieces plus a piping with foam and getting it to come out right... good luck.


like mentioned before i built the seat frames the way i wanted them and then dropped em off at an upholstery shop and let them work their magic.

+1 on getting them snug and then letting it set up with some clear silicone.  then once its kicked a little bit tighten up the bolts.  otherwise you'll just squeeze all of it out and you'll get a little pin leak. 

at least thats how i was told to do it on another board.

my panther had a grinding noise and a leaky front bearing.  buying parts from the panther jet website looked extremely shady and they were beyond expensive.  i ended up finding a working panther and ended up using that instead.  the general consensus i got was that once they go unmaintained and eat themselves up things get EXTREMELY expensive and hard to find.  the panther i picked up had already been machined and had a new suction insert.

go thru this operating and parts manual to get an idea of how your panther is built. lastly take off the suction housing with the 4 bolts and take a look inside.
