Here we go again....... Nice weather All week..... Then Friday .... The bottom falls out of the sky and nearly 2 inches of rain falls....., son of a $&;^+£€.
50 degrees one day .... 85 the next .....
Since the storm what ripped the roof up on my house and destroyed my garage boat has been outside.... I have a canvas boat cover, but with the amount of rain we have gotten over the past few months...I've had to cover the boat with a plastic tarp as well.... So I got the carb on today....hooked up throttle cable and pulled the plugs .....turned it over a few times.... what tha? Water sprays out of a several of the plug holes! .....it wasn't a lot but freaked me out.. Grab a compression tester and check em..squirted a little oil in each plug hole - WOT.......cranked it 6 times per hole...... 165-175lbs for all of em.
Oil in the pan not milky.....at least none on the stick.... Could it just be condensation from the radical temp swings and several months sitting?
I'm putting new plug wires and plugs in tomorrow and try to fire it up....

here is the opening I made for the diverter cable. I had put painters tape down to keep it from chattering, but that was a bad idea....it jumped the first instant I touched the saw to the hull..... 
I pulled the tape off and then slowly and carefully made the hole.... I ran it backwards thru most of the transom, and then forward for the last bit. .... (maybe I just screwed up,
but even though it gouged the gel coat, the cable seal covers the chip.)
I'll post another pic of the finished product.
The other pic is the gap in the steering tube bolt to the diverter arm. I found a nylon spacer that fits very good, and have a new bolt ordered as the old one was a bit short .
getting closer..... the weather is actually starting to warm up..... low 80's forecasted for the rest of the week, and NO☻ &%$#@*%^ rain!!!

Thanks for the input.
I had contemplated doing that too....... but I wound up drilling the hole, it was easier and came out cleaner than I thought it would.... (I was stressing about that / ) I ran it under the rear seat and engine cover.......... It gives a good loop for the cable to function smoothly. 
After I drilled the hole I ran the cable and checked function, I mixed up a small batch of resin and sealed the hole edges.There is a small gap between the steering cable tube and the steering arm , so I bought a small nylon spacer and ordered a longer SS bolt and that will take care of that. ( yes, I know the bolt is upside down in the pic
)Its getting closer.....

If that's the case, and the FG is soft, them an adhesive is the ticket.... As previously discussed here.
I have a small emblem on the rear of my floaty...I put it on with silicone and it has been in 2 seasons now. I lightly scuffed the gelcoat with 800 grit and the applied it. If it is a hard to find emblem, then a stronger adhesive would be the way to go imho....

« on: May 11, 2013, 07:02:13 AM »I want to use a pop rivet but its a blind hole and I don't think the rivet will sinch in the back cause fiberglass is soft. I think it needs metal to hold it tight.
Get a small piece of aluminum.... Drill holes to match the holes on the emblem. Use the aluminum as a backer....
