Anyway, Dave will probably know more than me, but the 502, mounts and all should drop right in. I think the only differences between the MK 4, and Gen 5/6 engines is internal and maybe valve covers.

Get some pics up! Crewcheifs right, coulda come with anything in '74, Ferd, Chebbie, Mopar, Olds, even AMC and Pontiac power. The menu was probabably pretty long back then.

Trick is with the 385 series Fords, Olds and Chevy, parts are everywhere, and cheap. I would love to build a Hemi boat, and may at some point if I trip across some deals on the marine stuff needed for Big Block Chrysler. (Mopar nut myself).

I gotta go with Nordie on this. Yeah, roller cams are all the shizzle, I'm an old schooler and am running a solid lifter flat tappet Comp Cam in the Moo. Prolly will stick with that combination on future builds as it works well!

Key is in break in, true, but so is the rest of the engine. My personal viewpoint is everyone skimps on the oil, which is  :screwy:

No, You cannot build a performance engine, particularly the way we beat and thrash them in a boat screaming pretty regularly at 5000 + rpm and use off the shelf stuff from Circle K! Use common sense.

I get a lil ribbing about using the Joe Gibbs stuff at a buck and a quarter a case, but you know what? I've got probably 20 or 30 times that , or more, in these engines. Flat tappets need zinc and quite a bit of other stuff missing from most off the shelf stuff. After a few emails and phone calls around, Lake Speed, yeah, that's his REAL name, at Joe Gibbs convinced me to try it. He was right, even though he has never even been on a jet boat in his life. Only problem I have is a poorly installed oil pan (My own fault,  :banghead: will be fixed this winter), that leaks a lot of the expensive stuff (About a half a quart a trip on long weekends like Big River).

I guess to make a long story short, which is too late, don't be afraid of flat tappet cams. They are just fine for what we do with proper maintenance.

OK, So Skip and I thought maybe a gathering, he got no support. Don't have to even involve boats, but SOMETHING. What are we all doing that weekend?

Mine is open, off and really want to know whats up. I've seen a couple at Blythe, I know some of the Vegas crew were talking Mead, Where we at? Trying to make MY plans as to where I'll be.

As another monkey wrench, there's gonna ba a LOT of jet boats at Sag here too! Mostly from the PB site, but a few cross dressers.

So where we at guys? (Lets try and keep it simple in this, ok? I am probably the biggest thread polluter, but I am ASKING, keep it on track).

They're low here too, all over prolly. Took out a few underwater trees, not this past time, but the time before at Sag here in PHX, Mostly with the late Blue Meaney, a couple with the Moo and MANY more at Bartlett earlier in the summer. No damage, as yet, BUT waiting, it might happen. Universal problem methinks.

Sandbars, rocks do not scare me after hitting a tree just a foot underwater in a cove at 30 MPH, lol.

The Boat can be fixed if I FUBAR it, (Well, other than the extreme I've already done to one) But what are the odds of that happening to the same guy twice?

Exactly. Those C9's you got from Charley are pretty fresh also, as I remember, and Paul should be able to tell you what you can or cannot get away with on the pistons to keep it in the 9-10:1 CR range using those heads. (Mines over 11, probably closer to 12, more than I'd like).

I honestly think though, you can hit the 450-500HP range easily enough with the d3ve's. Those C9's can be made to flow like a MoFo, hence their appeal, as well as the closed chamber design. Depends on which way you want to go with it really.

If all else fails, find a 460 blower intake. Got a Holley 8-71 sitting here!  ;D
