id normally pickup a felpro for a car, but didnt know if there was a marine prefered gasket or anything like that.  i figure ill need a headgasket set, headbolt set, intake manifold gasket set, and exhaust manifold gasket set (previously using silicone, figure its time to just use gaskets), and i dunno what else is needed.

fairly stock bbc.

remember your pump is aluminum too  ;)

hose hookup to the engine water lines.  i know that salt gets nasty when left on anything.  i spray the engine with some simple green and wipe it down, etc.

i find the name of the tow vessel rather ironic! i would get that motor flushed stat!!!!! if you get salt water in them cylinders, well you know! sorry about whatever happened! you'll get it fixed

yeah luckily my dad has a giant boat to tow me around in.  i pulled the plugs out and sprayed a ton of WD40 in there to clean the cylinders out and went ahead and used the leftovers on the valve cover area.

went out today...

not good.   i think its a headgasket.  there was some gunk in the valve cover breathers.   but the boat felt GREAT from idle to 5500rpms.  i dunno how fast it turned into but it felt like i was hauling ass.

oh and on the way in to the marina i dropped my phone into the ocean.  GRRRRR. not a good day today.

took it out tonight for a test run.  no leaks from teh pump, however i think when i lifted the motor up to get the pump out i think i tugged too hard on the exhaust tubes and they came loose.  when i started going i looked back and i was like ohhh snap.  heh.  the water in the bilge was nice and warm though.

the good news is that the pump works and sounds GREAT!  gonna head to the shop and pick up some T clamps instead of hose clamps and really tighten those things up.

anyone running these? curious as to what kind of bolts they use, also how are they with leaks? i dont see a lip to grab the gasket like my cheapy chrome moroso's do. any problems with the finish? its just one of those "its too good to be true" deals for me...

cant decide between:

and

the top ones look less busy with the bolts on the top, but then again... the bolts are on the top.

I've been cert'ed for a while now, but only have gone on a handful of trips.  I'd like to get out more when it starts to warm up but unfortunately its a sport that doesnt really involve my circle of friends.  Curious to see if anyone here is active and when/where you might be going.

pumps in!  not sure whats up with my steering though.  it got REALLY stiff and its shorter than it used to be.  hrmmmm.  didnt have a new rubber gasket for the pump but ive read on another forum that a spark plug wire works just as good.  so i used that and tossed in a bunch of new silicone around everything. hopefully i can go for a ride sometime this week after the silicone dries and test it out.

big thanks to jim and ralph.

gate valve > ball valve.

all it takes is one little bump to the ball valve lever to overheat and destroy your engine.  someone has to go and twist the gate valve to do anything bad with it.

what is the clearence between the imp and case, if you have two much it will cavatate

does it look bad from the pic posted above?  i think if it was any tighter it would rub in some spots.  theres like 1 fin at the top that gets a little far away towards the end.
