what you have is called "quarter stringer." its not as strong, but for moderate power its just fine. also plays a part in the bottom flexing as well. as long as you're not trying to own the lake with 2000hp and take chop easily and not try to power over it, you'll be fine.
im currently going to "plate" my quarter stringers to help add strength. basically sandiwching them between 2 aluminum plates which will spread the load of the engine across the entire stringer.

but i came from air mechanical, aquired into calair. small world. =) my step mom still works for johnson in a division at the mobil plant in torrance.

I used to work for a company that was purchased by Johnson Controls Inc....Last year I left there to go to work for my old service manager at ACCO Environmental Systems. By and large, the best decision I have ever made, all be it a hard one.
Best people I have ever worked for, have more work than we can do, and still work with all my buddies....
I want to say to 78centurion that I am really trying not to be a dick, trying to help you find some work....

not to be a bother but perhaps this is why you havent found work? you need to sell yourself. take every opportunity seriously and professionally. someone asks you what you do, what type of work you're looking for, you better be slapping resume's in their hand.

Tomright now its sitting on the triple mount. before i go changing it up for a real mount i just want to get it in the water and running first. but i also dont really trust some bolts and washers on bare stringers. so ill plate em for now. best part is i got em for free.
i def need some odds and ends and will be hitting you up shortly. but first comes a few grand for west coast marine interior...

« on: October 11, 2010, 04:04:11 PM »The Pump and Engine are already pulled. The thought was to rebuild the BBC with a little more pep. But got side tracked then married.
It's A Custom Sprint Sanger. My buddy and I both think all it needed was a quick rebuild on it. Like I said before when we last had her out I would mash the pedal and the RPM's spooled up fast but the pump wasn't really moving the boat. I tried to tell my buddy that the ole 454 was too much for that pump....he didn't buy that one.
Anything else it could be. I would hate to buy a kit and that not be the problem. the impeller and everything I can see look great. It made no funny noise. just wasn't running nearly as it did before.
just a suggestion if u dont want to get involved with rebuilding a pump from scratch or spending money on labor + parts... theres PLENTY of low hour pumps floating around that you could slap in there to get a running setup while you save up a few pennies to get your original rebuilt.

seems like a lake border would be somewhat heavily patrolled. extremely unfortunate but im not going to stick around as 3 boats cruise up to me and wonder if they're going to offer cookies. they shouldve got the hell out of there.

And it was bolted through the stringer with the right hardware and the whole handle you could pull side to side. Then found an old mounting hole in front of the handle and stuck a screwdriver into it. looks like water damage, hard to tell if its the whole stringer

Everything is there including the driveline, hallcraft v-drive, guages, steering is in great shape and lots of aluminum everywhere that has held up well, and 2 bronze props......just one problem I grabbed the trim handle for the cavitation plates and it about pulled out of the left stringer. I think this hull looks great but has some underlying stringer issues uugh
water damage or delam? kinda weird how it could pull out of a stringer, was it mounted thru the stringer with some washers and a nice SS bolt with teflon nut? or did they jimmy rig it with some drywall screws or something?

and its running. got it wired enough to start it and let it get warm. WOO HOO! (uploading vid to youtube right now) had to buy a holly rebuild kit for the carb, got a HUGE fuel/water filter since there was some SERIOUS goo in the bottom of the tanks. ill be carrying around a spare filter jsut in case i guess.
ran the rest of the wires and got a nice wire set from west marine that was originally $4.something a foot and on sale for $.76 a foot. SWEEEEET.
nice thick wires for 12v, ign, ground, tach. and ran another one for water temp, oil press, bilge pump, tank1/2.
but ran out of crimp on ring terminals. doh. oh well theres always tomorrow.

hull looks like its in good shape. trailer is ehhhh, is that carpet on the sides? a tandem is gonna tow better. but for $900 u cant be too picky for a sanger in good condition.

bring a small hammer or something metal with ya. tap on the floor in areas like the corners, tap the stringers. delaminated or rotten wood will have a different tone than a nice solid structure. check out the bottom for scratches. make sure theres aluminum tanks, all the gauges work. at this time of the year people are putting their boats away so make sure you dont get a boat thats all used up and needs everything to be replaced/gone thru.
lastly, see if u can go with em to take it for a spin. you'll never know how it runs until you actually run it. perhaps even leave a small deposit for his time. spending $100 is better than $1000 later on when you find something wrong.
lastly the boat should SCREAM out at you. theres SOOO much to choose from. if its not screaming BUY ME, walk away and wait another day on craigslist. your boat will pop up.

Last week we confirmed that you would be driving out to Vegas to buy this boat from me today (9/30/10). You said you were a man of your word, it was a 'done deal' and I declined taking a deposit. Since then I have turned down offers to buy various parts off of it because they are parts I promised you that came with the boat.
Monday I sent you a PM confirming that we were still on for Thursday. I didn't get a response, but you were able to post on this site since then (here, here, here, and here)
I left you a voice mail yesterday morning offering to drive it out to Kingman (1/2 way) since I was off work yesterday. And I also called again this morning. I didn't not receive any return call, but you signed onto the site last night and again this morning - no word from you. I understand your in a time of crisis, but if ya have time to log in and post, you could have at least given me the heads up you weren't going to be able to make it. It wasn't until I had to call you out on the site you finally called me back.
I am sorry to hear about your dad. Best of luck to your family.
its happened to all of us, and been on both sides. when i sold my mustang i had like 83 lookie-loo's and i told em all the same thing. "I'm not holding it for anyone unless i get a 50% deposit. First person with cash in my hand gets it... its up to YOU."
when i bought my tahiti from RD i was on my way the first day to make sure I didnt lose it. I didnt offer to meet, or deposit. I said I was on my way with cash in hand, put the motor back in it I want the whole thing.
also are the seats sold? im gonna be in vegas next weekend... hopefully if i dont blow my money at the tables i could pick up some seats. =) just making sure its not crossed out cuz yer waiting to hear back from someone like this guy.

gotta polish the logs. gonna be WAAAY easier now that they're on. also cut my spark plug wires to length. gotta find some wire holder thingies that dont stick out too far. id hate to walk along side and snag my leg on one or bend one.
also would the liquid nails hold some small little wood mounting blocks to the hull that i can screw wire hold downs and small stuff into and NOT the hull itself? or do i need to slap out the resin and do it that way?
