Wait till you get the fitting, drill hole in the transom cover with a step bit a tad smaller than the threaded end and if the fitting is stainless it should thread the aluminum or see if you can set a spark plug tap to thread the aluminum for the fitting

That sounds good, I really did not want to drill the hull itself .

Thanks for the tips

SoCal Lakes / Re: good lake for skiing?
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:14:10 PM »
Find a private Lake. LOL. Nothing down here comes close to the Delta.  Only thing better is a private lake. Castaic better than Pyramid. Much larger and closer. Both get blown out by 10 am. Best bet is to get anywhere in So Cal at 6:00 am. Good luck finding people that want to do that. Sorry for the bleak outlook.

My dad had his boat docked in Stockton for years. I learned how to ski up by Lost Isle..... The skiing is unbeatable no doubt.... Spent many summer months up there.

...., it was in the 80's for 3-4 days last week, then this damn global warming kicked in and brought several days of rain and night temps back to the 30's.... Of course it rains on the weekends....

Ok, the diverter has been sanded/painted/rebuilt and assembled.

I have the cable here, and have mocked up where I want to put the handle.

I need to drill a hole thru the transom. (I have a split swim step.)

From what I've read, I'll drill on the drivers-side......to make the loop to where I'll mount the cable to the control arm.

1. Drill bit or hole saw?

2. Starting on the outside of the transom right?

3. Tape it to keep edges clean?

4. Hole just big enough to pass the cable thru?

The salt water in the atlantic is pretty brutal, saltier and more acidic than say the pacific. I blasted my used diverter, hard anodized it and used appliance epoxy. looks as good as it did when i put it on 2.5 years ago.

Good idea on the anodizing....I sanded mine and just used multiple coats of the White epoxy.... Next year in going to sandblast it and powder coat it.

I worked for a auto painter when I was younger, and have painted a couple of cars....I learned to be patient..... LOL

The painting was always easy for me....being patient doing the prep was the hard part..... and the most critical part of a paint job I was taught.

Go for it.....

Trailers / MORE..... Trailer stuff
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:02:55 PM »
I knew the trailer had some cancer on the cross members where the drain holes are are when I bought it.... been keeping an eye on it and  I think they would last another couple seasons, but the idea of my boat bouncing down the road on its keel  :o  decided me so I bought the steel to replace em.

I can weld, but I am not THAT good.....  so its off to my buddy's shop for the job.

The carb is back together, could not have done it without my new friend Mr. Blackard. He is 77 and builds drags cars for his grandsons who race here in the Midsouth.....  his cars are fast....very fast.

The new fuel log came in as well. :) If the weather and work cooperate, I will try and get it fired up this weekend. I still have a lot to do...mount the bilge pumps / new coil and plug wires / re-bunk the trailer / clean the hull and wax / RR the exhaust hoses / change oil / and something I am forgetting I am sure.....
