Actually I think AZ has higher taxes. So far, the state hasn't given out IOU's to employees in over 17 years and if you sign up with a CA Employees credit union like Golden One, they will honor the IOU's. I think you should go for it. You can't beat the retirement or medical, dental, vision benefits!

Schools are so so, look for housing on the far west side of El Centro. I live in Yuma, AZ but work at state prison west of El Centro. I lived there from 1992 to 2006 (when I met my wife in Yuma). Summer suck but you're only an hour & half from lower river. El Centro has most of the amenities of a larger city (Costco, Walmart, Target, Lowes, etc). The spanish issue isn't that bad. Its worse when you go to Calexico (right on the border). Mexicali is 15 mins away, but I don't go there anymore because of the cartel issues. But I'm way overcautious about that, I have several officers I work with that live over there with no problems. 99% of business in El Centro are English speaking, there are few that cater to the border crossers from Mexicali. As for schools, Sunflower Elementary is excellant, I can't remember the middle schools name on the west side, but its decent too and Southwest High School is very nice. Its about 16 years old and fairly modern design. Housing is a little high for a desert area, but there are nice houses on the west side of town. There were a lot of people from San Diego area that moved east during the housing boom and bought large houses in El Centro (2000-4500 sqft) which drove prices up. Pricing is anywhere from low 100's to low 250's depending on location and size. In the winter time, everyone goes to Glamis, but I always went to Superstition area (traditional style desert trails) I never got into the dunes thing. We always go to Picacho State Recreation area (on Cali/Arizona border) and there are great trails and cool stuff to see out there (abandoned gold mine). funny story about my tat. I work at a prison and after I got my shark, I noticed that a few of the inmates were looking at me weird. I never thought anything about it until one day a Lieutenant came into my office and asked me whats up with my shark. I told him I just dig sharks. He proceeded to tell me about a group of officers at Corcoran that were known as the sharks and were known to beat the crap out of inmates! I thought he was pulling my leg and but I verified it through people that had worked there. Funny how symbology can mess with you!!! makes me glad I never got a Shamrock for my Irish heritage (shamrock is symbol for aryan brotherhood) lol.

Okay, so I'm slowly adapting to life without a boat (project or otherwise). I keep playing the lotto with dreams of a TPR Stealth in carbon fiber layup and all aluminum blown injected Boss Hemi. Okay back to reality lol. I think we're going to get a pontoon next and once I get that squared away, I want to build a tunnel hull of some sort with a 521BBF and pump to match. We'll see what happens, I keep hoping to luck into a hull like I did when I found a 69 Firebird for $100. Yeah I know, don't hold my breath. Anyway, I don't think I can make it through more than one more summer without a float. I've already gone through 2 and it damn near killed me.

just sold a 350 vortec for $500 with only 200 hours on it. It ran a generator. Bores still had cross hatch marks and bearings looked new. Wish I would have seen this earlier, I'd rather it go to a boater than the richard cranium that bought it.

First jet boat my parents had when I was growing up was a Ranger Banshee. 460 with Jacuzzi pump. Always had problems with the motor. Later after we traded it in for daycruiser, found out that the block was cracked and that was what was causing all the problems. The next owner never had a problem. Anyway, nice float!
