These have a contoured inner louver core for a smooth transition when the exhaust flows through them.
If you start to cut away at it, the inner core will need to have supports welded in them.
Not to mention they actually do work. The "real" bassett HP mufflers have a ring (round Bar) beteen the inner and out cores on the exit side which would make shortening them up "easier" I think. The header dont know or care where the muffler is in the collector.
One more thing, The shorter the collector , the less torque the headers will make.
8 in collectors are regularly used on high RPM v-drives where the shorter collector promotes higher RPM's , oh and are you gonna run water through them?
Where is alll that water gonna go?
prepare for an all black transome and lots of wiping down with cleaners.
I dont think hardly any of the prop guys with the cut down collectors run wtaer through them.
Lets be honest here , I dont really know sh!t anyways.....

Once again Omar,

You bring light to a darkened room........

I love you man :-* :-* :-* well im going to shy away from the short shorty's. Everything  that was said makes total sense and i "of course" was not thinking of that...

I was just thinking of how cool they looked. the ( cool factor ) gets me everytime :banghead:

Steve, I ran those short ones for one trip.  Didnt notice much difference in performance compared to running them open.  But they ere loud, try them first.   Borrow Ralphs and try them before spending the money, or let me know and you can borrow mine too.

Like the knowledge master (beerjet) said "prepare for an all black transome and lots of wiping down with cleaners".  Mine really isn't that messy, but I have very very little water going to the headers.

Thanks Jeff.

I think im going to stay with what i have cause they will slide right in the collector on the shorty's. :-*

I would run the first link. I ran a set for a couple years, totally rotted out and didn't muffle much at all, all the cops cared about was that there was a muffler in general. And it didn't make any MPH gain or loss with them in or out

And i will if i dont get a set of headers that are cut short.........

Ok these are the ones i have, but after seeing this i think cutting them would be a waist....

But i bet these would fit right in there.

So never mind im not cutting them , i have another option :sly:

I thought you meant cutting it way down, if the water cops dont care then by all means cut away!

Its not about the water cops!!!!!

Im talking will it affect performance at all by bringing the muffler closer to the collector ???

Im sure it will be fine, but before i buy another set of headers i want to feel good  about it :sly:

Omar , Glenn, Ralph , Terry , Tom where you guys at ???

That sucks bro, to make it easy i would just buy Omars but after thinking about it i dont need the Pan e vac and Jim Brock has a decent set with lines but no way to get them here :sly:

you might fool some of the cops with the "I see a muffler" but your not going to fool all of them. If your trying to stay legal, then be legal not just the appearance of legal.

Ok , i can see where this is going to go...........

Im not trying to "FOOL" anybody i was just repeating what i was told by the Nevada game and fish water cops........ the muffler is like 8"s long , im probably only need to cut off 3"......

Not to big of a diff i think ???

I might need to cut down my slip in mufflers to fit a set of headers that have been cut aswell.. Collectors were shortened.

Can any one see any problem with this ?

I think a chop saw at the muffler shop and a tack weld will do ? any cons with a shortened muffling device, Im trying to stay legal and i was told as long as they see a "muffling device" im cool............
