Trailers / launching behind a Class A RV
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:18:42 AM »
OK, so I know some of you have RV's and a boat(s). How successful are you at launching it? My 31 foot class A weighs in at 15000 lbs by itself, add a boat, water, and a steep ramp, and I am worried that I won't be able to get back out. Now it is a P30 chassis, so the rear drive wheels are not very close to the rear (it also has a tag axle)  which I am thinking and hoping means they won't be wet at all.

Does anyone here launch using an RV, or do you have a buddy launch for you?

WTB / Blue bumper guard
« on: March 31, 2008, 06:12:28 PM »
I need to get dark blue bumpers for my hull. The company my boat shop knows about basically is out and isn't ordering anymore, so I need to find an alternate source. It is 3/4 to an inch in width. Anyone have any? Looking for new or exceptional quality.

No jet boats allowed - fishing lake only according to the powers that be -

Then as I'm walking out, a BIG eliminator is going in. Definately NOT a fishing boat. I asked, and he said it is a 100 bucks from 4-8 on certain days if you know who to talk to.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Re: Looking for a 455 olds.
« on: March 29, 2008, 03:53:13 PM »
I have a complete running .030 over 425 HP (target) build out of my jet. Gil marine 10 qt pan, performer, Herbert .490 lift 230 duration hyd cam. Brand new Marine starter. Pulled because of an auto accident, not because of any engine issue - with an 850 DP and no cover spun my berk A to 5200 RPM. 850 DP not included.

I know it's not exactly what you are looking for so it may be more than what you are willing to spend, but PM me if interested.

I can start it as it sits and am willing to sell it less periferals (manifolds, water, alternator, etc).

try hitting your print screen button...its just to the right of your F12 button...then paste the captured image into mspaint

Yep, that's what I did, several times, even used several capture programs. It looks good on my screen - as soon as I resize or do anything with the image, it disappears. I save it, I can still see it, I can even reopen it - but when I post it it's gone.

Jet Pumps / Transom Adapter and Bowl
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:04:45 PM »
I have a Berk 12JC that is completely dissasembled with a new place diverter. It occured to me that I wil need to have the bowl and transom adapter powder coated white, cause everything else is brand new looking and these look like shit.

With my diverter, I bought the underslung reverser style, so I need to drill holes in my transom adapter to move the cable from right to left.

1) Is there a different transom adapter I can use that I wouldn't have to modify , IE 12jE or something (unsure of the number)? I am thinking maybe just buy a new transom adapter that is in great shape already ready to go to save time and money.

2) My bowl is, well, challenged. Inside and out. It's obvious that many rocks have gone through there and the vanes are pounded. Do I need to worry about my bowl or should I just have it powder coated. Are all the bowls the same? Is there a better bowl to buy for the JC? I just got a rebuilt impellor and shaft, a tiny bit more clearance than I would have liked, but still acceptible, so I won't be swapping that out.

Naa, I'm trying to capture something I took when I got my new camera - unfortunately it made the picture a 2 second AVI. Trying to extract a still out of that has been very frustrating, I love the pic - just can't seem to make it work as one :-(

The No Wake Zone / Re: good samaritan?
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:43:36 PM »
I remember being in Santa del Golfo in the salt farms. One of the other wheelers fell through the salt into the deep goo. There were several big trucks trying to rope yank this ranger out. and everyone had shovels, etc trying to free the beast.

Suddenly, the 3 mexican good samaritans started coming towards us with an old truck bench seat. We thought, Oh good, something to set the truck on to get it out.

They sat down on the bench, cracked open thier beers, and watched......

Hours Later - they got the tractor when they were tired of watching and pulled out the ranger.

werent mopar blocks painted red for a time?

Yea, in the 60's. 225 Slant 6's, 273's and 318 polys (plus the 1960 golden commados and the 1970 340's). Really not that common though, the Oranges and the Blues were the mainstays.

In 1961 *every* engine was silver except the 300 with the long rams, those got red. The 55-56 241-260-270's also were silver.

Korean War cars 1951-1953 some engines were painted flat light gray non-aluminum paint due to sortage of silver pigment.

Yep, I'm the biach that found out about the whole cargo deal. Now it would cover anything the boat hits after the deducatable (and your rates go up), but the boat itself is SOL.

Progressive asked my to get the cam specs before they would insure. Not sure what they do if I change it later.

AAA physically has to see the boat before they will insure, but they had a better rate. I am putting the single plane on it, a cover, and through transom exhaust to make sure no insurance issues pop up while the inspection happens.

I am going to make sure its insured no matter what, in a stated value amount (non depreciated). I need to see what the AAA policy actually is, otherwise I'll end up with progressive.

Marc if you have a contact in AAA, PM me.

While in transit it is covered by the tow vehicle!

Not with Mercury....Of course if my Agent is the one who wrong - then I'll re persue it!

391
Sure a local craigslist doesn't have one for ya??? Unless of course you are getting a smokin' deal - usually they are a PIA - which is why you can get 'em....

Thanks. I called progressive and it was $413 yr for my setup - until I added my 35 year old wife. She is too young for them, and it jacked my policy up by $128! Called AAA - $403/yr for same deal.

OH YEA>>>>>>>

(I'm the guy who lost a trailer with a boat on it - ball latch broke, snapped the safety chains and had the boat careen out of control next to a elementary school. At least the insurance denied coverage 'cause the watercraft ins wasn't caused by the boat, and to the auto insurance the boat is cargo - so here is the $200 less $500 deducable (read no money) for your trailer, sorry about the trailer cargo, we don't cover that).....

New insurance companies this year.

You can't blame him, if I had something I sold, I wouldn't want to give it up till I was paid either.

Damn it now I want a carne asada burrito from Sombreros  >:(

Here we have Bajia for the Carna Asada. Yum. I know what I'm doing Lunch tomorrow!  ;D

396
Thanks. I'm actually thinking I could pull this off (I have a fishing pole!). Thankfully I don't need to do a break in, I just need to start it up and go..I even have muffs in the 4 inch pipes.... So I could potentially start it and putt it around to make sure stuff works before I try and drive it somewhere.

If accurate, the $100 seems reasonable 'cause for me if I have to turn around and go home, repair, then back out again (4 miles vs 35 and a toll road), timewise alone I burn through WAYYY more than a hundred (really $80 'cause el is $20) bucks. The conveniance factor is well worth a hundred to me on that critical first trip to water with every single piece being brand new.

I'll be checking that out soon....

Yea, my jeep gets 12, wife's truck gets 10. Both are paid off.

We did the calcs based on 3.50 a gallon, using our mileage we drive a year.

To break EVEN, we got to buy a $13,000 car that got 28 MPG. Obviously, a little more mileage meant a hair more money to spend, but remember this is the BREAK EVEN point.  So really we were looking at driving a used POS buzzbox to save what we would spend on a bottle of wine at dinner.

No, I don't like spending $70 a fill up vs $50, but it isn't the end of the world either (they canceled the whole global warming thing)

If I wasn't recovering from surgery a few days ago I'd say yes, but I have an appt with the dr tomorrow.

I assume he is already there?

399
He could just be a dumb ass and trying to use a private postal company who is gouging him.

I had the same issue with a guy who knew his ebay'ed unpolished tunnel ram was worth $400, in spite of my summit racing showing him a new for $310. We had a $175 agreed price, so he tries to nail me with $110 shipping.  ::) :screwy:

Well,  I have a fex ex account that is on line. I make a shipper to myself from him (charged to my own account of course), I email him a pdf of the label. Literally all he had to do was print it, stick it on top of the box, and drop it at any fedex / kinkos in the world. He still had issues with that complicated proceedure ('cause he wasn't getting any more money!) but finally relented a week later and shipped it out. I think for me it was $28 total from Oregon (I get a great discount).

I go to elsinore too, so I could potentially pick it up. I also have to go up to gardenia so that could get it a little closer.
