:o Dammm, sorry to hear the bad news, again  :( .  I dont know much about Chevys, but if the 396 crank and rods are still good cant you use them in the 454 block to make a 427 ?

Yeah thats the game plan.

Very nice piece ! Congratulations ! assuming your going to use this for home/castle defense
Give some thought to this (below) its an "anti personel" round designed to stop a perp not go thru several walls and neighboring houses and apartments .They're spendy but worth it  just my 02 Tom

Thats very good advice Tom.  People seem to forget that when you have a perp and you take him out and that spent round go's through you'r wall and into you'r neighbor's wall and then take's the neighbor out.

Now who's really in trouble?    YOU ARE!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: MSD pill numbers
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:04:22 PM »
The MSD pills are resistors. Resistors in quanitity are about 10 to the penny. MSD charges ~$50 for a set of pills, which are pretty 1/4 watt resistors.

For the power requirement, that is easy enough -

E=IR

or in this case use a little algabra  -

E/R=I

so

12Volts/1930 OHMS = .0062 Amps

Amps * Volts = Watts

.0062 * 12 V = .074 Watts

So in theory, an 1/8th Watt resistor could work (.125W) - but you usually (at least) double for guardbanding.

Keep in mind the 1930 ohm resistor would draw the most current - the higher RPM pills would draw even less.

Got it ;)

Thanks 2sav

Steve, let me know if I can help with anything.  I'm sorry that thing didn't turn out to be a 468, and if you wanted to go a diff direction I would understand and give you your money back.  I guess I will be checking numbers from now on!!!!!!!!!   I just saw a BBC 4 bolt and had no reason to think otherwise.  Let me know on the rods and they're yours if you want em.   Jason

Well he did offer a refund :o  But i would be happy with $200 for a replacement block and the 454 rods.

We will see ;)

We've built 454's with peanuts before, I would typically drop down a stage on the cam. run about 4700-4800 with an A

Even with a smaller discplacement like a 396 with the 454 peanut heads.? And i am running an A impeller with my energizer kit.

sweet...ya know forged pistons fit w/ over twice the clearence as cast pistons. Thats why it's important to warm your enigine up properly before dropping the hammer, they swell up a little when warmed. Damn, if you would have ccalled when in town i could have given you my old calipers I got two new sets today. Any idea what the bore is yet?

Im just messing with you guy's thats not even my engine, i found it on a search >:D I pulled the pistons out today and they looked good i think with a hone and new rings i will be good to go on that end.  Next time im in Vegas i will give you a buzz , which might be next month again. Check out this crank its 010 but it sure is purdy ;)
