I want a refund  :banghead:

Just so all you chatty Kathy's know, this has been very theraputic and I really appreciate the time we have together

 ;D

GT

I agree! However why would I now own a yard full of boats, endless projects and maintenance issues were it not for this site and the fact I know YOU guys!!!

J/K, Wouldn't change it all for the world. Can't wait to start posting the threads on the three upcoming, simultaneous projects about to happen!

Shhhhh! It's a secret! But got a solid plan for two of them. The third? well, just gonna work on 'glass and paint. haven't made up my mind on that one.

I think Nordie has a valid point. My vacuum guage is a can of WD40 (The ONLY thing that chit is good for, what crap!)

Yeah, later is fine, my kids won't be back from Pennsylvania 'til July 29! So I got nothing but time (Wish I had more garage, then I could be more productive).

But once I get the Optima Battery mount and install it and the new pulley and belt on the Moo, she's getting a cover and banished from the garage for the Saguaro this coming week. Maybe then I can do something, lol.

Mondello used to be a name associated with the best on the early hemi engines? (331, 354 and 392? Plus the Dodge Red Rams, etc.) Different persons?

Been talkin about it with the fellas, may have a scoop and home for it........right Ray!?

Yeah, lol. Dropped the guy an e-mail before I left. I'll call him after I go check out and negotiate this Sanger for Jeremy. Hope we can find the correct scoop for it. (Might be towing a Sanger home, who knows, lol).

I think you've got a good boat right there! The 455 is more than adequate for almost any application, including hot rodding, really, just has to be seriously prepped for it if that is your intention. (If that is your intention, easier and cheaper to go Chebbie or Ferd anyway)

Almost all BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) "Big Block" engines suffered from the same malady. Oil flow and continuous high speed operation at or near the 5000 rpm mark. Kings of torque for their size/weight, just not sustained high RPM screamers, which is what we demand from hot rodded jet boats. Short bursts at those levels are fine.

The 455 has been used in boats almost since the engine was designed, so don't let this scare you. I would get an RPM limiting CDI box and have a blast! This is your first boat, so run the hell out of it!

Ray

Edit: I prolly should clarify the Oiling problems associated with these BOP engines. From back in my hot rodding days, the problems were, as already pointed out, loss of oil in the pan (Actually, somewhat that, but more the "frothing" of what oil was there, (Foaming), and it also loaded up elsewhere). restrictor kits, etc alleviate the problem somewhat, but at the risk of starving any hydraulic lifter cam. Roller or not. Potentially other parts of the engines as well.

Back in the day on Pontiacs, we seriously deburred and smoothed all internal surfaces (Particularly on top side of the heads and lifter valley). In some cases when done, you could see a clear reflection after painting the lifter valley! A windage tray and crank scraper were mandatory, I don't recall any serious issue and we never used any restrictor kits (Don't remember if they were even available then). Our solution was to aid drainback as much as possible, and it seemed to work. Though never did a jet boat engine, but seems relevant to the discussion in progress.

Didn't get a chance to even call the guy today Bob. Gonna leave early in the morning to check out that boat for Jeremy, so I'll call him first thing in the morning. Maybe I'll get lucky and get you some more pics and a closer eye on it. I'm positive it's the same boat though.
