If the pump is not damaged, use the money you would use on installing a Berkeley and buy a Place diverter for the WJ.

The WJ will handle just about anything you can throw at it without complaint.

As for the hull... I have a love/hate relationship with mine.  I absolutely hate how it rides unless the water is between flat and mild wind chop, anything rougher and it is horrible.  Now on the other hand, I love the uniqueness of the T-deck and the sexy shape of the hull.

And for an added bonus, don't plan on packing too much stuff in it, it's very cozy inside.

I just bought my first jet boat today its a rogers cyclone. with a 455 and a berkley. 12jb.  I'm. woried about the oiling isues common with these motors. the block casting starts with a l so it should be a marine motor but the heads have a e stamped in them so i think they are car heads. how do i tell if they have had the mods nesscarry for the oil to drain back to the bottom end.  What else can i look for any and all info ypu guys can give me would be great.   Motor has a tunnel. ram dual 660s bassets and a full malory marine setup. I have know clue what the internal specs are.

None of the olds engine came from the factory with "oil mods". These mods were developed by many olds gurus to improve the engine. Pull the valve cover, if the two oil holes on either side of the head do not have any grinding marks on them... Then you can stop there... Oil mods have not been done. Only REAL way of knowing if the lower end has been prepped for jet boat use is to physically inspect it.

E heads, means little without knowing what has been done to them, ie: new valves, porting, springs, retainers and so on

There is a pad on the block, right below that 1" letter casting behind the alternator that will have some stamped numbers on it.
If you see two rows of numbers, upper row starting with an "L", this signifies an original or marine issued block.
If there is one row of small stamped numbers, this signifies it was a passenger car block.

I would have lake tested it before purchase...engine problems become evident under load... Trailer running means very little since there is absolutely no load.

Not the original owner, but guy I got it from was. Motor was rebuilt, but has been many many moons.

Boat's definitely not a trailer queen, by any means. Out almost every weekend, usually both days. Less then 20 minutes from home to being out on Elsinore. I don't drive like a grandma, but don't thrash it either.

I'm not saying a Olds engine doesn't have it's problems. By all means, I know they are prone to oiling problems, water pressure issues, water/oil contamination and don't like high RPMS. I know! I was just implying that just because it has a small oil pan, doesn't mean it automatically needs a rebuild.

That's never what I stated, or implied!

Oil pan suggestion was in addition to a number of other things known about the engine, wasn't it?

Flat cam would contaminate the entire oiling system, no matter the capacity.

If an olds had been run with a small pan for any time in a jet boat, especially with no oil mods...it's injured

I also replied to your other post. You can quickly check to see if the engine has a large capacity oil pan... If it doesn't, plan on an engine rebuild, AND additional parts that you will need to help support the oiling in the engine.

I have a 04 2500hd duramax. BEST truck I have ever owned!
When I sold my last truck, an 01 f250hd v10, I said I'd never have another gas truck again. I looked at the three major diesels, power stroke, cummins and duramax. Out of the three, the chevy was the best all around truck! Dodge has a great cummins in it, but the interior and everything else SUCKS, and the power stroke blow up from just sneezing on them!

Go with an LB7 duramax (btw, they are made by Isuzu). Make sure the injectors were done, and buy from an older guy like I did. You will be glad you did!
