Projects / Re: LIBERATOR New Boat
« on: September 21, 2010, 08:47:50 PM »

Propless.

if you look real close you can make out the drivers stringer. it looks kinda "yellow" compared to the color of the balsa floors.

btw bad ass float liberator

Nope, I dont see a stringer there.  There is the vertical inside wall of the tunnel, then a wood trim piece (not a stringer) then the balsa. Look at the back seat, there is no notch for a stringer and its sitting flat on top of the tunnel.

LIBERATOR681, I was just curiouse because my Daytona hull has really small stringers (1 1/2" high x 3/4").  I was told the hull design gets its strength from the vertical walls of the tunnels and the stringers are basically there just to mount things.

LIBERATOR681, Just curious, and this is in no way a put down, because thats really nice boat and I wish it was mine.   But, looking at the int pic I dont see any stringers, is that a 1/4 stringer boat ??

WarZone / Made WHERE ???
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:52:04 PM »
So today I was pulling the heads off an 98 Mustang (stupid little V6 POS, NOT MINE).  After I was done I cleaned them up a bit so they didnt make a big mess in my car on the way to the machine shop.  Looking at them a bit and what do I see cast into them under the valvecovers, Made in MEXICO !!  :banghead: :banghead:  So much for buy American.  >:(

BTW. those heads are crap, the material is soooo soft that when I was marking them with a screwdriver, it made a HUGE deep gouge in them.  Must be some aluminum/pot metal alloy (cast from the crap they sweep up off the floor).  :screwy:

Even though its just a stupid little grocery getter V6, it was sad and made my Ford blue blood turn a bit less blue.  :'(

 Cool stuff there GT,

Whats your opinion on the marine oil ?   Looks like it has a better / lower number for the wear test, and somekind of anti rust additive.  http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/wcf.aspx  Looks like a nice idea, but it says nothing about zinc and phosphorus for the flat tappet cams.

« on: September 14, 2010, 12:01:48 AM »
Pat, I was reading back to where you mentioned there where some cracks around where the pod met the transom.  I know you took care of that with your glass work, but have you thought about making a pump brace for it so it doesn't happen again ?  Might be worth thinking about, I know your going to have more power than the "motor" that was in there.

Looks good Pat.  I like the lap joint, thats going to looks really clean that way.  When I did the ones for my old boat I didnt think of that and had to use a 3rd piece inside the plates to bolt them together.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: GM truck issues
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:09:48 AM »
Something odd happened with the truck today.  I used it to move some firewood around at moms house, it ran great all day.  On the way home I came to a stop and it wouldnt idle.  Had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. Ran fine going down the road, just realy rough at idle and would die if I didnt catch it.  Went out and checked it out after it cooled down, still wouldnt idle.  Turns out the EGR was stuck partially open.  :sly:  Messed with it a bit and everything went back to normal.   Do you guys thing this could be the problem, or is it just an unrelated issue ??  Maybe even when its closed its still letting some exhaust through, and messing with everything.

Actually it looks like a nice hull.  Should clean up good with a bit of elbow grease.  Does it come with the rest of the pump ?  And make sure its a WJ, not one of those damn YJs

Project Boats For Sale / Re: Buy, Sell. Trade Boats and Parts
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:44:21 AM »
Well, Looks like this is just a guy trying to make a living selling old boats and parts.  No different than Mouser, and everyone tolerates him.  I didnt go looking for the Craigs list drama, but if anyone here has any first hand issues with this guy, speak up.  Just like dealing with anyone selling used boats and parts, check stuff out before you buy.  Looks like this guy is just selling the stuff he comes across, not his personal boat, and not stuff he took off his personal boat. Theres no way he can know every issue with every boat (or part) he has.

So (as always, and not just with this guy), its up to the buyer to know what there buying and check it out before you plop down your money.  If you dont know what to look for as far as issues with a boat, than take someone with you that does.  And listen to them if they say no.  Most of us on here have seen first hand (or in someones project thread) how a small issue can turn into a HUGE (and costly) project.  But alot of people that are selling the stuff just dont know that much about it or how much work / money it takes to fix it right.  If your looking at buying any boat (running / lake ready, or project), its up to you to know what your buying.  Dont expect someone selling a project boat (or any boat) to tell you "this boat is a pile and needs a 2 yr resto (and $ 10k) just to be ready to get on the water safely".

And no, I dont know this guy and have never dealt with him.

Hey I did say "try"..... :sly:

We have been trying to get this thing running for a long damn time, every time we turn around we hit obstacle of some sort, I think we have them all worked out..

GT

Best of luck GT.  With all the help and advice you provide to all of us, its about time you took some time for yourself to get that thing running.

But I still dont believe it,  I want to see video.  :sly:

Ohhhh, wait a minute. You said Southwind, isnt that your dads boat ?   So you still dont have a running boat ?  Get your AZZ out in the garage and get to work on YOURS !!!!   ;D

Jet Pumps / Re: jaccuzi eagle pump good or bad to have
« on: September 05, 2010, 12:23:59 PM »
Yea, anything can be fixed, but is it worth it ?

That "Energizer" kit probobly cost as much (or more) than the selling price of the boat.  And your still stuck with an insert style pump.  Anybody ever seen a loader for an insert style Jacuzzi YJ, with an Energizer kit ??

IMO, if your looking for a boat to just cruise around and not go fast it might be worth looking at.  But if you have any thoughts of performance or going fast in the future.  Forget about that boat.  You will spend lots of money on it just getting it close (and only close) to performing like a boat with a standard Berkeley, Dominator, etc, etc pump.

At least he di not say with a stick and a rock     ;D

Nothing wrong with a good stick and a rock. Usefull tools right there.  Cavemen didnt need laser guided, computer controlled, heat seeking missiles to kill a woolly mammoth.  Just make sure you have a big stick, and a big pair of rocks.

BTW, at least I didnt do the standard jet boat repair technique of grabbing a handfull of sillycone and smearing it all over the place.   :banghead:
