IMHO, you can special order a new one and save some grief, probably not as expensive as you might think.

Thanks GT, I have plans of calling tomorrow to get a quote on getting the match made.
I'm expecting it to be more than what I can find two used ones for.

... Iv sold dozens of pairs of tanks, and now I need a pair. It always works out that way!

Help me out guys!
I'm looking for a set of large gunnel fuel tanks for a 20 spectra day cruiser.

I have a single imco tank from a boat I parted out, but missing it's pair. Maybe I can find something similar.
I'm ready to buy a pair if you have them.

Let me know what you have.

Your boat is an 18 maverick. What you got is a very nice boat! Capable of handling some power and will ride very well at speed. Just have to take care of the very important Olds tricks/mods and you will have a very reliable boat and engine.
Like I told you when I saw it, you have good bones and a lot of good things going for the entire boat.

When ever you are ready, I'll help you with getting that engine running tiptop

Do I need to rotate the bowl in order to put the place diverter on ?

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Yes, you will need to rotate the bowl of that the pivoting pins are vertical as opposed to horizontal like it is currently.

With some effort and well placed pivoting sockets, you can do this with the motor and pump still in the boat.

Listen to this guy. He really knows what he's talking about. Just got a place diverter set from him and he answered all my questions.

Glad I was able to help and everything is functioning correctly. If you need any other help/advise, feel free to call anytime.

Yes, the cables are pricey... But you will just keep buying them as long as it rigged incorrectly.
In addition to the cable, you are missing some other parts as well.

If you are interested, I have a complete black new style place diverter with cable, handle and everything you will need...

550 plus shipping

Or, if you want to spend let to get what you have working, I have those parts as well.

First, that block spacer needs to be removed, then you have to locate a spring for that steering tube. Also, you will need a clamp bracket for a 43c cable...
Do you have the shift cable already?

...are you wanting to keep the original vater? And prepared to buy the parts you are missing?

That Berkeley jet O vater style trim set up was intended to be used with an electric motor. When converting to a manual cable and floor handle the action becomes reversed, so up on the handle is down and vice versa. There is a correct way to set that trim up with the new style cable... Check in your bilge and see if you have a steering shaft with a spring on it, and a clamp to hold a 43c cable.
This is the first step. Then make sure the stainless exterior steering brackets are the correct size. Also, many cables were drilled and secured thru the transom cover... This is where the cable always breaks.
There is a much better way to secure and make the trim work as smooth as a
Place Diverter.
Take a picture of your pump, from inside the bilge, just above the water cooling hose to the engine.

This will reveal where your problem lies.
