Here ya go skitzo, this is probably one of the best threads that I've ever seen on replacing stringers, the right way. and it has nice large very detailed pictures!!!!
And please, for the sake of your boat, DO NOT REPLACE THE STRINGERS ON THE TRAILER, or your hull will end up like mine, jacked all to hell, and riding very wet and slow!!!!!!! I wish I would have known about these sites before replacing a section of my center stringer, now I can't even find a flat spot on the bottom of my boat, and it is twisted, but I also have a jacked up trailer that is causing part of my problem.
If you do it on the trailer, you are removing all rigidity from the hull, and the trailer bunks will push the bottom in, and when you put the new stringers in, you will be permanently setting that form into the bottom of the hull. And that will seriously fuck things up!!! Take your time and do it right, or don't do it at all.

« on: September 19, 2008, 05:46:30 PM »there is a little dipstick on my pump for gearoil i believe. I was wondering what weight of oil should i use and if any of you guys recomend a certain type. it also is pretty milky, what is causing the water to get in there?
If it's anything like a Berk. just use 90W gear oil, the cheapest kind you can find cause it won't last long. Also on the Berks, the seal is installed to keep the oil in, but not to keep the water out. So it does turn milky. Just top it off often, and you'll be fine.

Ok, that too. Also, the water inlet locations work as well.
I've been meaning to ask about that plug. Is that oil or water? I'm looking for somewhere to attach a gauge to check my oil pressure, without unhooking my electrical gauge. Will that plug work, or is it for something else?

Great guy!!!!!!! 
But I installed it, and it seemed to have made things worse, and I PM'd him and never heard back on it. No big deal, just curious to what he thought.

I've got a printout of the Mortec BBC site in front of me, and found your block number.
It says: 3999289....454.......71-79...2 or 4 bolt, some "CE" replacement blocks had four bolt main caps
So that being said it is a standard deck, I don't care what anybody else says.

If not, it could be like mine with a bad Bassett T-valve, and a shower of water sprays out the weep holes near idle. Or could it be leaking at the rub rail. Mine did that too, up until the other day when I grabbed a hose and some silicone, and started sealing any place that I saw water come in. Now I can stand there with a hose all day long, and not a trickle running down the transom. My hand hole cover was also leaking the first time out, kept my fuel filter nice and cool though cause the water sprayed directly on it. Just had to tighten that bolt up a little bit and it's all good now. I'm just glad I haven't managed to sink the boat yet, with all these leaks.
