Jet Pumps / Dominator O-ring question

I blew the o-ring out of my dominator pump and replaced it with a new one. It seems to have a lot of play back and forth with the new one on. Is there supposed to be a lot of play?? Seems like there should be some kind of seal with a new o-ring??? I first bought a large size o-ring that didn't fit the grooves. The smaller size o-ring fits the grooves but now there is a lot of play...
Any help appreciated...

I grew up in Arizona (Parker of all places) and spent some time in PHX. Summers are brutal!! At least in Parker you can get wet everyday. That said, most of my family lives in the Avendale area of PHX and they love it. Right now, you can get real estate pretty cheap out that way and it is rapidly growing. If the job pays, consider it....
I don't think they could pay me enough to go back!!! My San Diego acclimated self can't take it more than a week in the summer....

I'm new to this site but diggin' it big time... The older boats r awesome!! Did any make it to the Nordic Regatta.... Found out about it 2 weeks too late... was in Parker that weekend... Tons of questions on keeping a 460 going so more posts to follow... Great info here!!! Here's my 84' Nordic.
