Check float level should come out sight plug Only when you shake the boat on trailer. or maybe a fouled spark plug. make sure each plug has a good spark.   :-\

I would tune it on the water. and not on the trailer. if you can tune a car and drive it around the block to see if any improvements have been made. same thang with a boat. i know its a bitch but thats how ya do it.

Are you sure the carb is opening to full throttle.? make sure the carb is open all the way. bad tune up will pop or miss under acceleration. good luck.

I run msd wires and ac delco plugs. for your olds your going to have to find the right heat range by running the boat on the water not the trailer. pull the plugs out and see if there to hot or to cold. you want a chocolate brown color not white to hot and not black to cold.if running stock ignition 35 on the spark plug gap. theres alot more to this then just the heat range of spark plugs!!time to learn......

What the copper gasket didnt seal?     go figure         run a straight edge on the heads and the exhuast logs if there not straight meaning FLAT no gasket will seal. you may have to have the logs machined flat. or the exhuast side of the cylinder heads machined flat!!good luck!!!

The spark plug with the damage is probably were the the piston hit it when the rod let go. PULL motor pull pan!! time for a fresh rebuild and then you will know what you got!

Should the front bearing housing get alittle warm when cruzing around 3000 rpm?                I mean you can put your hand on it for a couple seconds. then when you idle around it cools off alittle.there is no vibration and no greese sweating out. been using high temp molly greese. and we get about 10 drips a minute.just wondering if thats normal or should it run cool all the time? pump was rebuilt about 7 years ago and we use the boat maybe 8 times a year.

DID it seize while you were at full throttle? Pull the motor and pull the pan. check all mains and rod bearings.see if there is any metal shaveings in the oil. Could have to do alot of machine work on the crank and rods. sorry to here that! was there alot of hours on the engine?

Been running 180 for 8 seasons now no problems as long as it dont go over 195 at the no wake zones. ;)dose it cool down when your underway?

72
On the oil drain i got a fram sure drain kit its like 12 bucks. it replaces your drain plug to a hose set up. then run the hose out your transon drain hole. no mess when it comes time for a oil change. ;)

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / high rpm miss
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:27:19 PM »
Getting a miss around 4800 rpm. if i set the timeing at 8 degress i get a miss so i retard it to 4 degress the miss goes away but the motor will only turn 4500 rpm. what do you guys think distributor wore out? DID A COMPRESSION CHECK there all within ten pounds! distribuator is about 10 years old mallory YL with a ignitor 3 pentronics unit bran new                    . wondering if any of you ever hered of this before.

75
Hell for 20 dollars more get the ignitor 3, it has a adjustable rev control. ive had all 3 ignitors the first one installed i had to play with timeing write from the start of the motor.cause you can tell the timeing was off just by hereing it run. were talking a few degress. ive never had to drill or move the plate? oh just dont let them get  real wet.they short out.
