71 tahiti. 455 olds all stock. Jacuzzi pump. When i bought this thing 8 months ago it looked completely different. Seats and all wood was shot. Had cocktail style seating. Also had a tunnel ram and OT basset headers. Since then ive re done the subflooring. swapped intakes to a edelbrock performer. New carpet all new seats and bases went to log and snail exhaust. Got all the gauges working. And tried to update the look.. i have gotten a new phone and dont have the pictures of the build. This is my first jet boat. Hope to be able to make it to some of the meets this year. Here are some before and after pics..  first 2 are before pics.

Projects / Re: Gauge bezels
« on: February 22, 2015, 08:56:46 AM »
You will probably find that the bezel is part of the gauge.  The best you'll be able to do would be to remove the gauges to keep from damaging the dash area, mask off the lenses and go at the bezels.

I'd try polishing first, then if you don't like the results go onto sanding and painting.

Be sure to post pics of the final version.
yea one of my bezels was coming off already and i noticed the glass is apart of the bezel. So looks like il be polishing. If i dont like how they look i may just buy new gauges. These ones work and i dig the vintage look but maybe its time to update them.

I have the hardin marine gauges that i assume are original to the boat. They all work and i kind of dig the vintage look to them. But i would like to either paint black or polish my gauge bezels. How would i take off and re install them? Im hoping i wouldnt have to remove the gauges to do this..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Chevy heads!
« on: February 06, 2015, 10:02:12 PM »
The vortec heads are 1.94 intake and 1.50 exhaust.  They are very well shaped valves without the characteristic "ski jump" that most production valves have.  I scrapped a few brand new sets learning how to port them and I am pretty sure I still have all the new out of them.  They work really good with 2.02 and 1.60s, the low lift flow numbers pick up substantially.

Look around, I bet you can find some good used pull-offs cheap.
ok cool maybe il take my heads off and send into the local machine shop and see what they can do. Maybe open them up a little. Its got a bad valve on the #6 cylinder

The vortec heads are the best production SBC head.  They flow 238 CFM @ 28" vacuum and .450 valve lift.  The '88 5.7 heads flow nowhere near what the vortec heads do.  The vortec intake has an eight vertical bolt bolt-pattern compared to the twelve angled bolts of the earlier heads.  You can redrill the intake bolt-pattern, but the ports don't line up as nice as the correct manifold.  You will also need the correct rockers and push rods.  You might run into issues if you ever have to go to a smog referee.  Unless you are going to an aluminum aftermarket head, IMHO, your performance will drop compared to the vortecs.
ooh alright thanks. Yea i dont to lose power so il just look into some vortecs. These were a set basicly free and one of mine has a bad valve. I was told their 64cc 194valve. I just bought this truck and dont know much about the vortec motors. not sure what cc my current heads are.

Ok so i know this isnt about a boat but i need some advice. I have a 1998 gmc sierra with the 5.7 vortec. My question is i have access to a set of heads with a little work done to them and are basicly brand new id like to see if they will work on my truck. They are out of a 88 5.7 center bolt heads( just like mine). Will these be a direct fit onto my block?. The #'s stamped are 14096217 below it k256. Thanks for any advice!

They make everything you'd need that's jetboat related. LS pto, headers, and railkits are all available.

A carb manifold and an ignition controller and your pretty much there.

Might have to fab some water inlets.

Oops, pics didn't load
That is awesome! What all did u need to make that motor work? Im assuming they dont sell very many parts to put those into a jet boat. Id love to do something like that in the future. What was the overall cost on a project like that? Way lighter motor, parts everywhere for those also!

Why not go with the f150 eco boost same towing rate as the v8. Plenty of power and get alot better gas mileage than the v8. Ive been looking to get one soon myself
