« on: December 18, 2015, 04:55:17 AM »Review, back from the dead. LS motors are junk. I've seen 12 mpg at best, around town, very easy, I can squeek 8.5-9 mpg, and it tows like shit...no torque under 4000 Rpms. I want my old iron headed truck back.
They definitely aren't junk but I don't think they're the best platform for a truck that tows. I have almost 240k on my lq4 and stock 4l80e and they're both doing great. It's had a heavy rack and loaded tool box on it since day one. Mileage isn't the greatest, I get about 13, but I won't complain for what it is.

I'm going to try a turbo LS. Going to try to set it up to make 1200 but will probably run in the 800-1000 range. Should have a good top end but don't think it will be enough to keep up out of the hole with the nitrous big blocks.

Not saying your doing a stock bottom end but was just curious. Hope it goes well and would be cool to see how it comes out

Yeah, going LS. Was going to be a SBE 6.0 but now going forged rotating assembly 408". Should be 5-550hp NA very easily. Add in the currently planned twin box Borg 366 and low boost should make 800. If everything works out it should make 1100+ on pump gas with a little meth. I want to spin it to 6800 on the dyno but it shouldn't see over 6500 in the boat.
It's real easy to talk about what it should do on paper though. Hopefully next season I'll find out what it can actually do.

I didn't say it would be cheap but I won't have 18k+ into my engine. Minimal cost for boring and line hone. Buy the hard parts. I'll be doing the assembly. I have a turbo guy or I'll just go box Borg units. Should be a solid small block with easy 4 digit capabilities. On pump gas.
We already have a 370 with twin 60s that should spool instantly and spin the rollers 900+. Pump gas. Once we get this one dialed I will know more where I will be but I should have no problem making too much power.

And I'm in North Orange County, not like there isn't enough to pick form close by.
But when a good deal is a good deal, just do it. Even more so if you are looking for something very particular.

I'm trying to get rid of the whole boat. Trying to get into a winger and going turbo LS. If I can sell the engine for a decent price I'll keep my complete B1 pump and trash the hull and trailer.

Roughly what does a complete, running engine go for? 461" Mondello built, tunnel with 2 holley 600s. Unknown hours but cylinders still look good and runs great.

May not be the fastest thing out but sure as hell sounds like a nascar going by.
To answer your question about the Avi. Yes it has gotten much better. They know our group and they keep a close eye on our stuff. Don't think anyone has ever had a problem.
But no peeing in the parking lot!
I think it would also be a little hard to break into any boats in the parking lot when the partying goes all the way until sun up.
