Hey guys!!!! Yes, open headers are allowed. They dont check for baffles from what Ive been told. Most guys stay away from castaic for that reason, but pyramid is ok from what Ive seen/heard.

Jet Pumps / Re: Hydraulic PD Hose
« on: May 20, 2016, 04:22:40 PM »
Just get hydraulic SS line for trim tabs
I got these at teague but any boat shop carries them. Mine are 6ft lengths
I never liked the idea of nylon lines and the first time I had one pop I switched them out

The No Wake Zone / Re: Chasing the all mighty MPH
« on: May 18, 2016, 09:36:52 PM »
Well I'll chime in but all its going to do is back up everything everyone already stated...
First off remember the black boat parked next to you at the Avi? Thats mine. 21ft open bow with heavy ass hull, heavy ass interior, stereo blah blah blah... Needless to say shes a big girl as far as jet boats go! That being said Im deep in the 70's full of fuel and loaded with 4 people and coolers. But its costed me cubic dollars. I went 509" of chevy with a huffer on top pushing through a chiller, roller, aluminum heads etc etc... Put this same motor in these little 18 footers and I could play on the top ten list. But for me; entertaining friends and going farther distances mean more to me than an occasional blip past 90mph. Theres not a trip I go out where I dont think about the good ol days of a stock 454 and a reliable 50mph and 50 gallons of fuel lasted all day!!!
I think my point is this, yours and my boats were designed to haul a few people around the lake or river all day but not really a race hull. If you want to throw a few bucks at the pump I say go for it. But Id reconsider chasing 70+mph in a cruiser. JMHO
Free advice is worth what you pay for it...nuthin!! Have fun
Beautiful boat btw

The No Wake Zone / New engine hatch system
« on: May 18, 2016, 08:29:33 PM »
Whelp, at the Avi Saturday evening at the mothers day meet I was a bit toasty and forgot to secure my engine hatch straps, which at 70mph proved too much for the hatch. The fucker decided to lift off and remove itself from the boat. What that means is it tore itself loose and ripped the bimini clean off too. I remember turning around to see it flying through the air. By the time we turned around it was floating its ass down the river like a raft. Soooooo, Ive since reattached it, replacing the gas struts that obviously sank to the bottom of the river; and attached this nifty chingadera that not only lifts the hatch up and down, but secures it if I ever 'forget' to latch it again...
The video is waaaaay more impressive but seems I can only attach pics

Marines here with a tour to Iraq. Now Im a firefighter/medic with LACounty Fire station 73 in Santa Clarita

Its pretty common for vets to go Fire or LEO after they get out due to them both being structured and paramilitary. Well that and the excitement/action

N8dawg--- good seeing you too brother; it has definitely been along time. I forgot to look at your el camino!!!

HalletDave-- i took some bitchen pictures of your boat and a video of it running down river.

We boned out sunday morning to ACE to get some drillbits and stainless steel hardware to reattach some things after the engine hatch blew off at about 70mph... Took the bimini off with it

Thank you to Dewey and another gentleman for helping me drill some holes and get it reattached after it happened

Anyways it kinda ended the trip for us but I'll say we had a great first time with everyone. Running back to that cove and then to lazy harrys was epic!!
